Yes it was cold, cant say this has been a great summer but people forget a lot of work goes into the shows, if they stopped them because the public are not supporting, then folk would be up in arms, i can never understand that people will play football or go to football matches in bad weather and never complain about that. As it was said already a bit of rain or wind will not stop the farmers going, maybe folk should stop and think they have to work in all weathers and have more back bone.

And the next generation were there as well, enjoying the the day and no doubt working on the story that 'it aint like it was when when we was little' just like we used to say!!!!!!

The County Show was the Poorest :~(i have been at over the last 20 Years.
There was very little at it for the cost you paid to get in £6.
Compaired to the Kirkwall /Dornoch shows it is very Poor value.
The site is to far out of thurso for walking to and to charge £3 to park makes it an expensive day for a family.
The place for the show is the Riverside in Wick, its with in Walking Distance to the Town Centre .

I didn't go to the county show because of a family commitment but I do usually go. I do prefer the Thurso site to Wick, though.

We decided this year to go to the Latheron Show (last weekend) instead of Scrabster lifeboat fayre and I wish we hadn't bothered. I paid the whole family in at £4 each, there was practically nothing to see and I didn't find the atmosphere particularly fun or welcoming.

In future we'll stick to the lifeboat fayre, which is free to attend - which has to be a consideration for a whole family, and there is much more going on.

And contrary to what a previous post said, not attending an agricultural show doesn't mean that people don't know that farmers work hard in all weathers, I'm sure most people do understand and appreciate that!

I am happy to see the folk who posted pics seemed to enjoy themselves at the show! Instead of moaning on here perhaps people could contact the organisers and voice their opinions plus perhaps giving some idea of what they might like to see at a county show. I am not slagging anyone here just voicing my opinion.

We went and had a fantastic day, the group of people we were with all enjoyed it and it was value for money. The kids had a great time.
People always moan about the price but the show has like any show got overheads that need to be paid. It is a local show and it deserves our support.
Really good show, friendly atmosphere and I as usual will be back next year.
Well done to all exhibitors and competitors who make it such a fun day.

The local Marine Mammal Medics (BDMLR) had a stall at the Show.
The near gale force winds prevented us from displaying our rescue pontoon and inflated pilot whale.
We could not put up our gazzebo fully because we din't fancy the idea of collecting it from the other end of the county.
Some of the other groups lost their stalls completely.
I would like to thank all the people who braved the weather and came and saw us and took part in our raffle and tom-bola.
The money raised will be sent to the BDMLR charity and some of it will come back to Caithness to support the Highland seal hospital that opened in time for the Common seal pup season.
3 pups are now in residence and being cared for by Jamie and Heather.
Once brought to their correct weight these pups will be returned to the sea.
There is a blog for the seal Hospital with pics , but i dont think blog addresses are allowed on the org.
IF YOU WANT THE BLOG PM ME.

the whole day is fantastic the rides for the kids are good ,tons of food and stuff like that, raffles to win cars, rvs, log cabins,if you wear something to show your scottish you get stopped and people are so friendly to you.
The rodeo is fantastic as they do the bareback, bull riding, calf roping etc they have a disc jockey thats plays music, he seems to find a song to fit what ever happens.
The grandstand show at night is out of this world they have a mix of young canadians as they are called, and some profesional acts the fireworks as the show is going on are fantastic on there own, so if you get the chance go..... the greatest outdoor show on earh ... without a doubt
