I hate mobile phones and yet carry one ( very often forget to switch it on, charge it but I do carry one) I hate it when you are out for a meal and someone hasn't swiche their phone off and it rings in the middle of the restaurant but todaymust have been the worst incident. The last mobile free area Tha ladies loo. There I was visiting the ladies loo in tesco Wick and heard the lady ( I [resume it was anyway) in the next cubical texting on her mobile and then in the cubicle on my left a mobile went off and a female sat there chatting. Is there no peace from this horrid machine

The last bastion of peace in this world is the bog so let's start a campaign for a legally enforced faraday cage to be incorporated into every new built bog.

I lost mine last year going through customs at an airport.
When we got on the plane and I realised I did not have my phone to switch off I went into panic mode and threw a wobble at the wife as she was the only one I could blame.
At the time I thought it was the end of the world ,as everybody I know and keep in touch with had there details on my phone and I had not backed it up.
After about a week or so I quite enjoyed being (out of the loop ) so to speak.
Although I have a new phone I am fussy who I give my number to now and find it liberating :Razz

My dad used to say that any woman you meet is a lady until she proves you wrong (good advice by the way). I think those two fall into the latter category.

In view of their situation, surely the phone should have come up with the engaged tone!

mobile phones, make some people so ignorant, like they go into there own little world when they ring, said this before i work in shop and hate it when you are trying to serve someone when they are yapping away on their phone, oh so annoying

Brilliant, Lizz. For my message tone I've got Pirates of the Caribbean, so when it goes off, I just say it's Johnny Depp on the phone again!! People don't quite know how to react to that...

Or, worse still, going on a night out with folk who continually text. What is the point in going out to socialise? Why not just stay at home, beeping away, gripped to an inanimate object? I am from the era before mobile phones and it seems to me that there's just no manners anymore. It's just ignorant. People will prioritise their phones over real people, sitting less than six feet away from them. I don't know how many times I've heard the, "Just wait a second, I have to reply to this." Why? Is someone about to 'press the button' and your text will make sure of our continued existence on this planet? You can even accessorise the stupid things now, buy them necklaces and suchlike. Good God.

It's a mad world. Go back to the old red phone boxes I say....

I find mobile phones very useful items when used properly. I used to do a lot of hillwalking with young people (retired from that now) and found them invaluable, particularly when some youngster got hurt, it was the only link to the required services. I used to get really annoyed when I was in an area where a signal was not available, I don't know if it is any better now. Also useful when Mrs Whitewater goes on a spending spree in the city, I can always find her easily (only if I need her) but they can prove to be a great nuisance when she is looking for me.

I think that in general they are brilliant, but in the wrong hands they really are a pest.

I agree with you Whitewater - they are extremely useful but deadly in the wrong hands!
I have to admit to answering my phone in a loo - I was mortified but it was important - I did not have a conversation tho just said that I would call straight back! Hope I still retain my "lady" status! ;)

You think that is bad, I was at a recent Eric Clapton concert and the bloke in front of me had his head in hands all night. I thought he had a few to many before he came in but no, he was texting the whole time.

What a waste of a ticket! Maybe it's like an OCD related illness these folk have got :) I do agree that they can be useful but then I don't remember my life being any worse when I didn't have one......

I hate when you are mid-sentence and talking to someone when they stop you to check the text and then you realise they werent listening to you in the first place!

The wife wonders how my credit lasts so long, easy its switched off unless I am waiting for an important call from the queen or something after all if they know me that well they know my home number!!! :)
