Most people do not remember giving such information so they think the 'psychic' is being genuine.

And if it was during the show, it was undoubtedly cold-reading (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_reading).

Why are people (especially women) so keen to believe in this hogwash?

So true TBH - we probably all cling to something.

So why is it mainly females who subscribe to these 'psychics' and their nonsense? Why don't more men believe in this?

Seriously, it's a question that has bothered me for some time.

For the same reason that they don't want to be seen crying. They are more insecure than women and don't want to be 'seen' as believing in that which cant be explained, also they are more inclined to be afraid of the unknown. I don't know why this is the case.
I think i could be quite good at this 'cold reading' myself but would never pretend to be psychic.

I don't even know if this is the case at all. Any proof to back up your claims?

Seriously, it's a question that has bothered me for some time.I don't really know but I would say that men are more spiritual than women.
