Could someone please explain how being shot at can ever be described as "friendly"?
Stop these wars that should not concern the UK and bring our people home alive.

According to this page, the term, somewhat unsurprisingly, was coined by the United States Military:-

There seems to be quite a history of it occuring.

"During WWII there was a popular saying that was widely spoken between Londoners. Referring to the Americans and 'friendly fire' -
When the Germans fire, the British duck. When the British fire, the Germans duck. When the Americans fire EVERYONE ducks!"
