Do you have a friend who owns a friendly small dog willing to work with you on this? It's an easier first step rather than taking on dog ownership and responsibility in its entirety while your child is still unsure.

We have a small-ish dog but she'd be far too enthusiastic for your purposes, otherwise I'd be very willing to help. A large dog could fit the bill too, if it were an older and very gentle dog. They're often less in-your-face than small terrier types.

I couldn't help but notice a recent post of yours asking for assistance to re-socialise tank..

Well i am looking for someone who lives in pulteny town area of wick to help me re-socialise our Tank.
He is sociable to our dog and any puppy, but i have noticed since he has been neutered he thnks he is rocky, and seems to have lost that playful attitude. He is non aggressive but he gets so excited when he sees another dog he seems to forget how to say hi politely. So i am looking for someone who has a calm quiet dog who would be able to meet up for walks around bignold park so tank can learn to be more of a social acceptence than a deliquent...He is an 8 mth old staffy,

Is his problem sorted now, if not he's probably not the ideal candidate to ease a 4 year old into liking dogs.

I have a middle aged small pug who I'd be more than happy to lend out, she is very quiet and docile, my baby son climbs all over her and she doesn't bother in the slightest!

:D
I admire Carolyne for all the work she does , not only for Lab. rescue but all the other pets she has tried to re-home. It takes a lot of work and dedication and it`s a pity there aren`t more people out there like her, then the world would be a happier place.
I wish Peedie all the luck in the world in finding a new home with a famliy that will give him lots of love.

Tanks only problem is with another dog. when he sees one he get excited and unfortunately people back off because of his breed, so he does not get the chance to socialise with another dog, But with children he is quiet, non boistrous and well polite, and he certainly does not get over excited when people enter the home, he waits for his turn to be petted, not diving up all over people as some dogs do.well mannered towards people, he has to be....So i would not say he was not the right choise, as he lives with children an sees them everyday..I was only offering to help as i know my dogs with kids..
