Following on from the Thurso pictures thread (really enjoyed the latest additions by the way!) some of you may like to know that in this year's exhibition at Lyth Arts Centre there are paintings by D. Barrogill Keith which I'm sure you will find interesting. Below is a quote from the description on the Lyth Arts Centre site: www.lytharts.org.uk (http://www.lytharts.org.uk/)

"D. B. Keith (1891-1979) was a prominent Caithness painter from the 1940's onwards and founded the Society of Caithness Artists. This show features the collection which Robert Maitland has amassed over many years and covers both his Scottish and continental work. During his lifetime his colourful work found its way into many Caithness homes, including the Castle of Mey. This is an opportunity to view over forty works by an artist who, although he died almost thirty years ago, has a legendary reputation as someone who kept the spirit of painting alive for many years."

Other artists showing their work this season are David Rosie, Joze Hicks and Martina Cross. You will all know Martina's work from here on the org., and David Rosie is well known for his contribution to the Caithness Art scene. A fresh young contributor this year is Joze Hicks from Scarfskerry whose work is very mature for someone so young; we expect great things from Joze in the future.

There are more exhibitions to enjoy; take a look at the link above to see what is on offer; textiles, jewellery, papermaking etc., and of course, well worth a visit for a cup of coffee and Betsy's baking!

The centre is open every day during July and August from 12 noon until 5pm. Adults £2, OAPs £1 and children, students and unwaged 50p so all in all, good value and a great afternoon out in the country.
