can anyone tell me if there any laws/regulations on potting,ie could i go down to the shore with a couple of pots and chuck em in,returning the next day/s to check them ?

No problem at all, Router.

Providing you don't sell your catch, then you don't need a licence at all - regardless of what some people may tell you.

Pick your spots carefully if you're fishing from the shore - somewhere nice and quiet, as someone may try to help you by checking your creels for you.......

You can only use a maximum of 3 pots if you are unlicensed, and you will need to be aware of the minimum size regulations covering each species that you may find in your traps. After that, the worlds your oyster, or lobster if you prefer.
