Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can help me confirm my family members in the 1881 census. I have all the info from one site and it can't show me the origional document, but it doesnt have the Street name. The details are

William Sinclair(baker) Born 1957 Thurso 24
Catherine (Forbes) Sinclair born 1958/9 Pultenterytown, Wick 22
Georgina F Sinclair 3 born 1878
William Sinclair 1 born 1880 (disapeared in the 1891 census)

The Registration Number- 43
District & Parish of Wick
ED-8
Household Schedule -148
Lines 18-21
Roll-CSSCT1881_11.

I think I have them in the 1891 census too I have those details too if anyone can help me. If this is the right family I think they should be in Dempster St as I have a son David born there in 1881 after the census.

Thank you :)

If more details are needed please let me know

By the 1901 census it seems Georgina had married James Powell, and lived in Bridgeton, Glasgow at 69 Carstairs Street.

In the 1891 Census, William and Catherine had moved to Glasgow, and lived at 10 Slatefield St, St. Thomas Glasgow. Still listed as a Baker. It lists Georgina as still living with them there.

Thats the info i have too and I'm glad you see it as the same family also as some of the info changes slightly in each one. I got the info from Ancestry.co.uk, the census has been transcribed over as they are not allowed access to the origional document.

I can get to see the microfiche of the census of when they moved to Glasgow but the one from Wick I cant see yet and would love to see it or have it confirmed. As I said I think it will show they were in Dempster St ( heres hoping lol) or they moved around ALOT lol

William Sinclair, aged 2 and a half, died, sadly, at No.6 Dempster Street in 1882 on March 3 at 1pm. Cause of death is given as pneumonia for 12 days.

Georgina Forbes Sinclair, 10, Slatefield Street, Calton, Glasgow married James Powell, journeyman mason, on April 28th 1899 at Albert Hall, Bridgeton, Glasgow. Her occupation is noted as wincey/weaver. (Wincey was a fabric of woven wool/cotton mix).
Slatefield Street still exists, apparently, off Gallowgate.

Thanks Cuthill and Jock,
Especially for the Street number, I wonder if its still there now.

Yes a little bit of Slatefield St is still here, I pass it quite often, however the origional houses were changed many years ago. I managed to make contact too with one of the Powells from the USA too. you seemed to have picked up on some Info I didnt have too.

Its weird too that without knowing any of this info before, that in the mid 80's that my Mum, Dad, Sisters, Brother in law and myself all worked in a weaving mill here in glasgow, I was the only Weaver though. its enough to give me the shivers lol

Thank you so much
