I don't want anything for Fathers day, it's just another idea to rip money out of people. I know my children love me as I do them, why would I need them to dip into their hard earned to prove it?

I don't see any other reason apart from swelling the coffers of some shop to do the same a third time. Love is from the heart, not material goods.

Cards and other things made by my children were always gratefully recieved Taking the time to make something to show your love is worth more than all the shops in the world could provide and they never will.

As with every other day, fathers day is too commercialised, but I still took the opportunity to show my father I loved him, but no matter how much I spend on him, I love him more than money can say. He made me who I am today :)

What a 'wet blanket' you are. My family and grandchildren all came to see me in a sense of let's have fun on a special day. Spending? A bottle of wine and a bar of chocolate as a small token. It is not about the spending but about the entering into the spirit of the occasion.

They ome regularly anyway but how happy the grandchildren were to come marching in with a homemade card and the small gifts. The look on their faces made it all worthwhile. And, of course, they were being educated and encouraged in the value of giving to their older family members.

As with any other occasion Fathers' Day is what you and your family make of it so do not damn the commercial people and do not think that much if any hard earned cash is needed to make the day just another bit of love and fun.

Nothing to do with shops as far as my family is cncerned. Showing affection with a visit, a homemade card and a very sall gift, often also homemade.

I received Father's Day greetings from all 3 of my daughters. On one of the cards my grandchildren also signed. It was a glorious day for me.

There is nothing more satisfying than your kids taking the time to make something with their own hands as a present for their mums and dads.
What really grinds my gears is commercialism taking over the same as they have for christmas, easter and every other social event in the calender, that is what I object to. Damn the commercialists.[disgust]

Problem was your first posting gave the impression you were totally against Fathers' Day and did not allow for all of us ho given and received Fathers Day love and greetings without resorting to Commercialism about which your later post makes your views and most others quite clear.

Come on, everyday on the org is old grumpy orgers day! I find it theraputic to have a good old grump on the org (this sit or others). It does not harm anyone and clears my stresses in a few key strokes.

Perhaps so, however, I prefer to reach out with a helpful hand and tell people how much I appreciate them hoping it will improve their outlook on life.
