I just been over to Orkney and seen their new handsome flag (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:2007_Flag_of_Orkney.svg), contrary to common rumour, it does not resemble the 'Quisling flag' (http://www.kildenett.no/imagearchive/20155.jpg) that was used by the Norwegian fascists during WWII, as suggested by some quarters of the media. Just putting down a viscious rumour, lek ur know, reyt enuff...

Any suggestions what a Caithness flag should look like?

I believe their "original" flag was indeed just the red and yellow, the other way around though, but this was too close to another flag - didn't think it was anything to do with the Nazi's.

The blue was incorporated to show their connection with the sea.

I remember an article on the BBC website at the time of its release.

And............. I'm sure there's one flown on the A9 between here and Inverness, can't remember exactly where though........

It's only a "community" flag, so I presume has no official place in the flags of the world?

Back in June 06 the same question was asked -

My suggestion was here - still stands...:)

Interesting design, MP - I get the impression you're trying to make a point with your flag......

How about a competition on the .Org for a Caithness flag? i'm sure we could all load up something.

So glad you posted this...this flag flies outside a house just south of Brora and I've been hunting to find out what it was. I knew it looked sort of Scandanavan (combination of Sweden and Denmark sort of idea)...but thanks!

Its a handsome looking flag.

Only on friday we were discussing that flag as well, lots of counties have their own flag.

I will take your word for it, it is all about creating an identity for somewhere to go. That is why Orkney has it cracked in terms of tourism, it is somewhere to go. We are just somewhere to pass through. We lack an identity, we need to contrive one, things are changing...
