View Full Version : Plenty to see in Dunnet Forest today

Had a short walk in Dunnet forest this afternoon - it seemed that we saw something interesting with every corner turned. The list includes
- a Roe Deer
- a rare Speckled Wood butterfly
- a variety of bumblebees
and a few that I got decent photos of below:

Not sure. I've sent a photo to Mary Legg with the same question. If I get a positive ID I'll let you know.


Update: Info now received from Mary - they are Palmate Newts.

Don't know what answer you will get but I found both Palmate and Smooth/Common in Caithness, and definitely Palmate in the ponds there, and all over the moors in the peat banks.

Lovely pics, reminds me of my almost daily jaunt down through the forest before they spoiled it.
