What glorious colours! Nice one Dan....
That's a very fine photo of a pheasant
Indeed, it is colourful and pleasant
Some hues are muted, and some are bold
He's certainly a beautiful bird to behold!
Thanks for sharing it with us, dan67! :)

Early in the the year the males seem to acquire suicidal tendancies as they display. Personally I would prefer a large grouse to a pheasant, preferrably with a bit of ice .
In Aberdeenshire earlier in the year................

Great images of what to my mnd is one of the most attractive and one of the dumbest birds in the counrty. I live in the borders now and these are one of the most common birds we see down here but they have absolutely no road sense. I have lost count of the times I have had to stop in the road waiting for one to make up its mind which way to go. I was once stopped for about 30 sec as two males fought.
Also I must have hit about 10 in the three or so years I have lived here. One female too of just in front of me, hit the front of the bonnet and shot up in the air then thumped down on the boot of the car.
Its just as well they are so abundant.
I dont remember seeing many in caithness growing up (although I wasnt looking) are they common up there?
the picture of that one i took is on the road to lockerbie
Yes, there are pheasant up here; some people breed them for release later on....in fact I had one last week and very tasty it was!
