Craig's from Wick

Does anyone have any information on the Craigs from Wick? I can get back to a Francis Craig, married Hellen Donaldson in 1820, I know there was one son, my Great Grandfather, Francis b. 3 Feb 1840 in Wick, Emigrated to New Zealand. Died in 1907 at Springcreek, New Zealand. I know nothing of the line and would like to know more about where he came from. Also what life was like back then.

My gggrandmother Margaret Donaldson had a sister Helen. I haven't got any info. on any of Margaret's siblings and would interested to know if there is a connection here. My Donaldson family came from Wick

Hello John Page, Thank you for your response to my question re Francis Craig. Yes I think (1471) is correct. You have dissolved a brick wall for me thank you. Sorry I didn't respond here sooner but I lost this site and couldn't remember how to get back here again. It looks like you have my G Grandfathers siblings and parents but not his marriage to Helen Donaldson in 1820. I think I need to confirm this to be sure he is the right one. I can't thank you enough. I'm very sorry that at this stage I know nothing at all about Helen Donaldson other than she was married to my GGGrandfather and was the mother of my GGrandfather. I would like to stay in touch with you though in case we do have a family history in common. As I explained in my previous posting I lost my way to this site. I'm so very pleased that I have found my way back here again and will be checking in regularly now. Have you any further news now.

Since replying to this I have looked again at the LDS IGI. There is such a number of Francis Craig's christenings listed that I can't really be sure that he is the correct one. As much as I would like it to be so, it would solve so much more searching. I am better to wait to confirm until I can at least afford to send for a marriage certificate for mr GGGrandfather Franics to Helen Donaldson and see what that tells me. I don't think I'll be doing that until early 2002. Til then thabks for your help.

The only other info. I have on my gggrandmother Margaret's sister Helen Sinclair Donaldson is that she was christened 2 May 1799 Wick, parents were Robert Donaldson and Mary Innes. Please do get in touch if you find a connection.

I have lots of information about Craig's of Wick from 1700 to to-date.

I have a Christian Craig who was born 1773 to George Craig 1737 and Janet Taylor1742.

What has happened to this listing, there was a 1851 census entry here that has disappeared. This entry showed very clearly my GGrandfather, his parents and siblings. I have since discovered that from the information given in thst posting to the list, my GGGrandfather (Franics Craig b 1792, was the son of Donald Craig and Elizabeth Doull. Donald Craig being the son of Andrew Craig and Barbara Taylor. Information gained from LDS IGI.

I'd like to thank the person who posted that census entry but as the message is no longer here I do not know who I am thanking. The new format is nice even though it has cost some information.
