View Full Version : Well ladies, what do you make of these adverts?

I noticed this selection of adverts from a time where it seemed like women knew their place and men were keen to make sure it stayed that way. Although we live in different times now, have women really moved on from being exploited by men in the world of advertising?

Anyway, here they are:-

A friend of mine pointed out recently that she thought that women had not moved on, they fought for the vote equality and the right to go out to work etc etc and now a lot have to do all they did before and go out to work :) she may have a point.

Did you have any modern advertising in mind when you asked this I do not have TV and seldom buy magazines or newspapers would be interested to know if there were specific adverts where you thought women were still exploited by men ????????????????????????????????

I don't see why women should complain too much about being exploited in adverts. After all, almost everything has been invented or developed to make their lives easier. They should either put up or shut up.:D

P.S. I'm only joking. Women seem to be the target in the majority of adverts because they do most of the shopping for home or family or are made to feel insecure about their looks/figure. Luckily we live in an age where women are more informed and are unlikely to be taken in by adverts compared to women in the 50's/60's/70's.

Hmm dunno about that have just remembered the size Zero debate, that must come from advertising and modelliing agencies and there seem to be a lot of women influenced into being stick insects.

Though, I don't think women these days are influenced to be chained to the kitchen sink as such anymore. A whole heap seem obsessed with looking sooooo thin they look ill.

Yup - just about anything designed by a man. E.g., printers and cartridges with all sorts of little incomprehensible pictures that make no sense, and vacuum cleaners and digital cameras with no pictures or anything so you haven't a scoobie how to get into them. Just don't get me started on programmable central heating thermostats.

You are truly a man after my own heart Scorrie.

Simpler times eh ??, where there were no jokes about women crossing the road because they never went out as they were to busy in the Kitchen and around the house. If only women would just accept us as natuarally superior we would all be happier, I will believe in equality when a woman picks up my rubbish bins one day.

Lord Flash's wenches were kicking up this week because I hadnt taken them out for a while, as I took them out six months ago I dont see the problem. I mean, I paid to have an electric light put in so they can actually SEE the floors they are scrubbing and an inside toilet because they said their feet were cold. I dont buy them shoes as they dont go anywhere, waste of cash really. I had to give in as all they did was complain, complain, complain. I tell you a womens screech goes right to your fillings dont it ??

I have thought about going into advertising myself, but the equaivalent of the pet carrier for the female of the species probaly wouldnt catch on.

From glancing at the comments at the bottom of thesse adverts it is the men that ended up moaning. Seems in advertising they are "bumbling incompetent fools, who have been ridiculed adverts for twenty years according to one mans comment" "And feminism has gone too far"

Maybe I should go watch some Tv and see these for myself

No particular adverts in mind, just loads of allegedly non-pornographic magazines "loaded" ;) with images of scantily clad women, looking like steak hanging in a Butcher's window. Also, all the adverts for "airhead fodder" magazines such as Heat etc always seem to show women gagging to find out about Z-list celebrity trivia.

Kismet
14-May-08, 18:33
Yeah I will agree a lot of women seem to sell themselves like pieces of meat and rarley buy womens magazines cos they full of rubbish articles if you can find them amongst all the advertising.

I but psychologies interesting articles and very little advertising and cheaper than a lot of the womens mags anyway :Razz

I dont think women are exploited in adverts anymore.

I remember watching the Kit Kat one where the secretary doesnt feel "naughty" enough so she flashes her bra at the bloke in the office, bloke falls over and oooooohhhhh isnt she a naughty girl. If a bloke did the same it would be indecent exposure. A lot of adverts these days portray the men as being daft and incompetent, ie we cant operate a washing machine, look at how stupid Dad is etc etc.

If its a form of payback for all the digs men have had at women in adverts then fair play, fill your boots girls.

I like to remember the simpler times ...

[lol] I have added these to my utube favourites soooooo funny  Thankfully gone are the days that women are not allowed to show intelligence and wonder if statistics will show that more men crash cars lol hmmm may research that one. Maybe men just sore that women often get praisedfor being more careful drivers and some have way more intelligence than some men heehee

I don't think it can really be considered exploitation woman are not stupid they are choosing to sell themselves to advertising, money is a powerful tool to help folk make fools of themselves.

To exploit others is to take unfair advantage of them and is it unfair when they are very well paid and know exactly what they are doing ???????????
