How many of us sang or had this song sung to us, it is indeed a great favourite.

Oh yes Trinkie, I had that sung to me and I sang it to mine along with the 'Nut Brown Maiden' and others like 'Coorie Doon'.

You can hear the tune to Coulter's Candy here :- http://www.mamalisa.com/?p=787&t=es&c=110

Karia, I can't help you with the tune to - "get till yur bed before a take ma han' off yur lug" - thankfully! LB

Oh I remember that. My dad used to sing it a lot to me when I was really wee. You brought back some great memories there. I won't be able to get it out my head now...

Songs like this do take you right back in time, not always to the good.

Whatever memories I may have of 'Ally Bally Bee' can't be pleasant ones as I have been feeling quite uncomfortable all day with this song in my head.:(

That said 'All things bright and beautiful' makes me throw up so I must be quite sensitive to the tunes of my childhood.

PS. I had a very happy childhood and lots of other songs from that time make me smile.;)

Well I'm glad most of you have happy memories of this little song. I have certainly sung it to my grandchildren many a time - whether it sent them to sleep is another matter.
I can also remember my dad singing 'From Weebleton to Wabbleton is 40 miles '... now where on earth did that song come from.

Trinkie..if you'd sung it to me I am sure it would evoke only the happiest of memories...:D

...but I'd still hate 'All things bright and beautiful';)

OK I now officially hate you, Trinkie. That damn tune will be stuck in my head for hours. Just for that - The theme from "Green Acres"! See if you can rid your brain of that stinker!

Today’s headlines

SCOTLAND SLUMBERS AS THE DULCET NOTES OF ALLY BALLY BEE WAFT O’ER THE WAVES.

Yesterday we were reminded of an old Scottish Lullaby sung to many of us by our doting parents and grandparents. It is without doubt, a haunting little air which lulled a fractious baby to sleep.
Now it would appear, after hearing this tune once again, many folk fell asleep at work, heads dropping on desks, taxi drivers pulling into the side of the road for a quick nap, etc etc. Such are the powers of this tune.
Alas, not all were pleased to hear this lullaby again, some turned against their friends with such hatred, but all will be well and all will be well as that tune slips quietly into the depths of Slumberland and another more lively little tune takes it’s place….. Donald Where’s yur Troosers? perhaps.

( Wake up G.B. I know fine you slept well last night – the best sleep for years……I heard ye snoring! )
