Going National! Details in reply at bottom.

This is a copy of the email I sent to HYV contacts, some HC Employees, councillors, etc with regards to the petition which most of you should be aware of by now. If not and you want information then just send me a PM.

EMAIL COPY:

Hi all,

(Want to stop receiving these emails? See below email)

Live broadcast information:

For anyone interested, the Scottish Parliament Public Petitions Committee will meet to further discuss the transport petition on Tuesday 13 May at 2pm. A live broadcast of the meeting can be viewed at:
http://www.holyrood.tv/popup.asp?stream=http://vr-bng.lbwa.verio.net/committee1 (http://forum.caithness.org/go.php?url=http://forum.caithness.org/go.php?url=http://forum.caithness.org/go.php?url=http://forum.caithness.org/go.php?url=mhtml:{2AA04E88-0289-4AF1-9CE1-B1C6C56EFB3C}mid://00000030/!x-usc:http://www.holyrood.tv/popup.asp?stream=http://vr-bng.lbwa.verio.net/committee1).

Because other petitions are scheduled to be discussed on the same day, the transport petition may not be discussed at 2pm exactly and the meetings usually last between 2-4 hours therefore you can watch the recorded broadcast 24 hours after the live broadcast at http://www.holyrood.tv/library.asp?iPid=3&section=43&title=Public+Petitions (http://forum.caithness.org/go.php?url=http://forum.caithness.org/go.php?url=http://forum.caithness.org/go.php?url=http://forum.caithness.org/go.php?url=mhtml:{2AA04E88-0289-4AF1-9CE1-B1C6C56EFB3C}mid://00000030/!x-usc:http://www.holyrood.tv/library.asp?iPid=3&section=43&title=Public+Petitions).

Progress of the petition can be viewed at

Further information with regards to the petition:

It has been brought to my attention by MSPs that there may be set backs for the petition in relation to the National Entitlement Card. They have highlighted that only around 40% of young people have the National Entitlement Card and there is an even less percentage of people who own a card that actually use it. They have said that if more young people don't begin to use the card more frequently/ apply for one then this could determine the outcome of the petition and it will be even less likely that young people will be allowed free travel. Please pass this information on to as many people as possible and try to use your card more often and use it every time you use public transport.

We will soon be in the process of bringing the issues stated in the petition to national level through MSYPs and MSPs if the petitions committee fail to do anything about them. We also hope to have it more publicised through press and media. If the petition is unsuccessful, we will carry forward the signatures to a new petition which will be open to new signatures aswell. Signatures to this petition will be sought throughout Scotland and we will then petition the parliament again and possibly through the PM petitions site.

When I say soon, it's likely to be in the next few months that this happens, after I have been given the outcome of the petition.

Highland Youth Voice Public Transport Campaign Group will be working in conjunction with MSYPs and MSPs to bring the campaign for free transport Scotland-wide, promoting it through schools and councils nationally. We hope this will highlight the importance of public transport for young people and resulting in a positive outcome of the petition.
