I read about this yesterday, this woman is extremely warped and I can only try and imagine the effect it will all have had on her poor son!

What a selfish woman, she has probably done a ton of damage to the poor kid's emotions. If she treated my properly, he would have no reason not to want the have a relationship with his mum, but she could end up with none, if and when he realises what she did to him.

Sounds like she may have Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy.

I don't see the point of putting her in prison for so long. A short custodial sentence would seem to be appropriate, as well as referral for treatment and supervision.

She may not have been considered insane, but it is obviously the manifestation of some deep rooted problem.

I thought that as well but the article states that she is in control of all her faculties. My son is planning leaving home soon and that is sad...but I would never force him to stay if he didn't want to. Children are not caged birds they do need to fly eventually. The ones who don't want to go would probably be worse but at least it would be their choice. The child in this case had no choice.
