View Full Version : Caithness 360*
Having taken hundreds of panoramas here in Caithness, Sutherland and other various parts of Scotland I thought I make a start in taking more 360* visions panos.
I will be adding more over the time...

Excellent photographs, I am interested in knowing which panorama software you are using.
Sorry does n't do it for me, too much in the picture that makes it quite disorientating.

I am with Lizz.
Totally overblown, just makes me feel dizzy, if truth be told.
These kind of shots used to be the preserve of estate agents.
I cannot fault the execution though.

I think one of the problems with 360 panoramas is that there needs to be some foreground interest to give the photograph depth, and to give the eye a starting point before it scans the rest of the photograph. The Dunnet Beach panorama works for me, the reflections of the clouds give the depth to the image, I find the Loch More photo harder to view, but love the sky. Overal I am still impressed.
I think part of the problem with these sort of images are that they just don't translate too well scaled down to 800 pixels wide on acomputer monitor. I'm sure they would look fabulous 3 or 4 feet wide, framed on a wall.
To me I'm impressed with the flawless joining of the various images used. Having tried this myself I congratulate Raven. I would agree though that there needs to be something more interesting in the mid/foreground. A town, cityscape or mountain range can work well with this sort of treatment where there is a huge amount of detail and interest for the viewer to explore. (though a nightmare to merge all the images seemlessly and in perspective!!)
Well done Raven, keep up the wonderful work.

Deemac,
You are quite correct in saying that they lose a lot of the impact in scaling down. I also agree that the technique is excellent, I have only had a couple of attempts at creating panoramas using photoshop, its not easy and requires considerable care when you are taking the images for the panorama.
Cheers guys for your diverse input!
I think panorama photography, especially 360* one is a very specialised subject, either love or loathe it, I love it!
Thank goodness for a diversity of taste, I would find it incredibly boring when everybody would like the same stuff!
Deemac is spot on, to scale down an image from 15000x5000 pixel is quite difficult when you want it to look right in the small version. The prited version is 50"16" at 300dpi and will look stunning.
Although some forground interest in the Loch More shot would have been nice, it was not absolutely necessary for me as the sky was my main interest.
Anyway... cheers for looking!
Hey Raven your now a one half 1K orger!!:Razz
Have you sold any of these 360° (alt, numeric keypad, 0176) images yet? If so how much are they? (I assume framed canvas prints) - just being nosey you understand.;)

I agree. I'm sure I'm in the minority but overall I prefer natural shots before they are enhanced/manipulated.
As usual perfect execution of the theme, beautiful pics, but i canīt quiet get me head round looking in one direction and seeing right around, thats probably why Iīm not a chameleon
Don't know nothing about size or scale of pictures but Raven I think your pic's are stunning:cool:
