Looking through the members' list there are some really weird and wonderful usernames. Some obviously are the names of the people concerned but some I can hardly pronounce never mind remember.

How did you decide on yours?

Mine is one of the obvious ones, BUT what about your username venture? :D

I chose mine because I love twiglets and my nickname as a teen was twig. Just seemed the obvious choice.

I remember when I was registering with the org. I hadn't thought of a name beforehand. I happened to have a newspaper beside me with a heading "New venture for......" and chose it from that. Not very original Im afraid. Although you could say it was appropriate at the time of joining as I was taking a "venture" into the unknown. [lol]

Ok dehaviland - are you suggesting that we all use the search facility before starting a new thread? ;)
Venture - I am glad you ventured in and happy posting and chatting!

This has been done to death :) http://forum.caithness.org/showthread.php?t=33348&highlight=user+namesThat was almost six months ago. People have come and gone since then so there will be many posters who will not have seen Threads from that long ago.

My apologies for creating such a repetitious thread in your eyes DeHaviland. I didn't remember that there had been one before. I just thought it would be a thread that anyone could add to especially the new members who might be a bit wary about posting on some of the wider debates on here.

canuck
30-Mar-08, 14:32
Canadians often use the name 'canuck'. Depending on which part of the country you live in you can claim that it is a Quebecois name for Canadian or a west coast derivation of chinook, the mighty winds that sweep down through the Rocky Mountains. I love the way Caithnessian's pronounce it. Chobbersjnr calls me canook, others put the emphasis on the first syllable and say can' uk. The North Americans on the org would say it like I do, can uk'.

By popular request - and with the consent of Venture, the original poster here, this thread is now open again for your responses.

This has always been a regular topic from time to time. As Venture said, it gives the Newbies a chance to get a word in, if they are wary of posting.

From my point of view, it gives us Oldies a chance to refresh the memory banks. DeHaviland - please refresh us on yours - I've forgotten. :D

I think this is a great thread that can be re-introduced at regular intervals, because the membership of caithness.org is constantly growing.

My username..........well, to be honest, I just picked random letters, as I wanted to be anonymous!

Glad you brought the subject up venture as a newbie I have not seen this thread. When I joined it all looked like a funny place to be and reading some of the posts I became keen to join in . It was only then that I realised that you had to be a member to post and hastely filled out the join up bit with my name and not an AKA. When ever I introduce myself to anybody out and about I often get "O you are the prat that talks a load of tosh on the ORG"LOL.
AM I BOVERED.
Keep smiling

Well anneoctober there's certainly no other place like it.

There are times when it can be frustrating, irritating, hostile, annoying, exasperating, distasteful, woeful, combative, opinionated and controversial (and that's on a good day) BUT, it can also be sad, helpful, sympathetic, supportive, witty, hilarious, creative, knowledgeable and of course addictive.

Have I regretted joining? Definitely NO. If I hadn't joined I wouldn't have had the opportunity to meet the many people I am now privileged to call my org. friends.

Happy orging ;).

I lived in Spain for 4 years and as my name is Richard I got used to the Spanish calling me either Richie or Ricardo, most forums or websites that require registration seem to not have Ricardo available so I just stuck another R after Ricardo and voila! you have RicardoR

Thanks for the explaination canuck. I've always thought of you, like Chobbersjnr, as canook. Maybe that's the Caithness version for you!

I thought that at first but as Jaws said, there are heaps of newbies so lets all introduce ourselves again, who cares, it's only a bit of fun, and you don't have to reply.

Lola is my dogs name and sometimes we call her Lolabelle, and as I was quite unprepared to have a "username" I just used that. But now I use it everywhere. My pseudonym. [lol]
