Am visiting the area for a brief overnight and day visit, and would appreciate advice as to the best sights to see, when time is so limited. Wish I had more time, but will come back again for a longer visit. Will be there in May.

Weather permitting and if you have a car, go to Duncansby Head and do the cliff walk, the sceenery and the birds are amazing, take the single track road to Braemore, the walk out through to Trinkie from Wick,Dunnet Head is beautiful, the grey cairns at Camster.
Indoor visits would be Wick Heritage Centre, Thurso Museum, either of the croft museums and Dunbeath heritage centre.
Hope you enjoy your brief trip north.these are just a few suggestions

Yarrows archaeoligical trail is stunning, but added to Lizz's recommendations makes about four hard days!

You could tie in a brief visit to John O'Groats with the walk up to Duncansby Head. The sign says that the footpath next to the 'Last House' is closed due to storm damage, in reality it just means walking for about 100m on the shingle beach before you pick up the path again.

You can walk onto a small beach by the bench made purely from shells. A bit further on will bring you to a good vantage point to watch grey seals in the next small bay. Head up to the lighthouse and then follow the easy path down to Duncansby Stacks. You can then walk back via the road.
Or park at the Lighthouse and head in either direction, if time is short.
Lovely couple of hours if the weathers right.

Dunnet beach is nice, so's Sinclair Bay.

Hi welcome to the org.

There are beautiful areas to see along the coast going towards the west as well, its nice as well along in the Durness area with Smoo Cave being one of the highlights.
