Thought I'd advertise the Scottish Pagan Federation Summer Camp (http://forum.caithness.org/go.php?url=http://forum.caithness.org/go.php?url=http://forum.caithness.org/go.php?url=http://forum.caithness.org/go.php?url=http://forum.caithness.org/go.php?url=http://www.scottishpf.org/camp.html) here because it's in the North this year.

Please contact the organisers directly if you are interested.

Paganism is an ancient Earth based religion, unrelated to the spiritualist church or claims of psychic or supernatural phenomena.

Make up your mind - you have made it quite clear in other posts that you think such things are drivel.

would have thought they would have hung witches..last one was hung in 1944 in scotland. why have a dunking stool when it was easier to build afire...

They had to establish they were guilty first, hence the ducking stool.

bit strange as if they drowned they were innocent, bit late..
this was taken from wikipedia...

In a trial by ordeal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trial_by_ordeal), supposed witches (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witches) were immersed into a vat of water or pond, and taken out after some time, and given the ability to confess. If she confessed, she was killed. If she did not confess, she was submerged again. This process usually was repeated until the victim drowned or gave up and let herself be executed in another way (hanging (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanging) or, rarely, burning).

I didn't say stonecarving was drivel and I'm sure this festival is very interesting - but it's a religious festival  so surely not your scene? I would love the festival apart from the camping bit, never been keen on that.

However if you have suddenly developed an interest in religions of any kind - that's wonderful. I find them all fascinating.

Wasn't just witches that got the 'chair' - seems that scolds did as well...

Scolds were also punished by this method. A scold was a term given to a gossip, shrew or bad tempered woman during the Middle Ages. A scold was defined as: "A troublesome and angry woman who by brawling and wrangling amongst her neighbours breaks the public peace, increases discord and becomes a public nuisance to the neighbourhood".

You seem to be jumping to big conclusions, I just mentioned stone carving!

And anyway, there isn't any religious content to the activities.

Now, if we had an online 'chair' it would get a lot of use on the .Org, and not just for the women.......
