Hello Folks,
Is this a cormorant or a shag, or are they the same thing? It was being photogenic in Scrabster.

Hmmmm, it's turned out a bit wonky.:cool:
Thats a shag.
Cormorants dont have a crest.
If you saw them together the cormorant is also bigger.
Cormorants also have some white around the beak area, bit it's not always present or obvious.

I think he/she looks great, that face and untidy crest the angle of the shot seem to go well together.

These pics i took 21-3-08 at Helmsdale Harbour.
One pic is of a Juvenile and the others are of breeding birds showing there full colours.
The light was not in my favour so i've had to edite to bring out the best pic of the birds.
The white feathers, which we usualy associate with young birds are in the case of Cormorants are part of their breeding feathers along with brighter colours around the beak.
