I was just wondering if any one knew of a good pony club or anyone who offers horse riding lessons for the young beginner... i have a 8yr old daughter going crazy to learn more about horses and i am really keen to feed her enthusiasm..:D:D

As far as I know there are only 2 riding schools in the area - Achalone Activites has already been mentioned, Marion has about 12/13 years experience and regularly has pony club competitions at her place and full day Saturday riding for kids/teens.

The other place is Lyth Stables. I think Natalie Oag runs this and her number is 01955 641318. As far as I know she does lessons and pony trekking - all levels of experience catered for.

If you want to go a bit further there's a trekking centre at Bettyhill and their number is 01641 521472.

That's all I know of. Hope this helps. ;)

The above phone number is for Lyth Stables, but they are now closed. Natalie, I believe does have a riding school further down the road at Lyth, but don't know her number.

Torrisdale Trekking is very good, you need to speak to Lorna Mackay (sorry don't know her number, but you will prob find it in yellow pages). She's lovely and there is a beach to trek on right next to the stables. You probably won't find a lovelier place to horseride.
