Read in Courier this morning that New Look is set to add it's name to Homebase site. That will be just brilliant for us girlies..........can't wait!!! This is so what Wick is needing.

I think it's ace too - one of my fave shops!!

Prob won't be so impressed when everyone else is kitted out in new look clothes and we're all wearing the same though.

I know I get the same feeling when you buy a nice Jacket or whatever from MacAllan's and see it on 3 other folk on the Street but least New Look have a much bigger selection and the prices are far cheaper than MacAllans (people will be able to afford some new gear at reasonable cost!)!!

Try living in Spittal. No shops here apart from the garage.

I also heard that there is going to be a McDonalds beside Tesco? Any truth in this?

Chardonnay

I wouldn't mind living out in the Country. Hate e Town!!

I hear alot of things are happening i.e. Top Shop, Next & yes I heard MacDonald's, until you read it in the papers then believe it.

Whatever comes is gonna be a bonus and change Wick forever. Can't wait for New Look & Tesco's!!! :p

So what does that lot mean?
The first bit I've got no hope with but am I right in thinking that the last bit says I'll have to have a chat with a local ....bike? eagle? bi - eagle? :(
Crumbs! Is there no web site that anyone knows of? :D

Naefearjustbeer
11-Nov-05, 00:35
my goodness woman you will have to have a chat with a local boy or something along that lines, dificult to give a accurate translation of Chavvy deeks

crayola
11-Nov-05, 00:37
A local bike? Lol, no!!! There's a different word for the "local bike" and it's not pretty.

biyeagie = boy (literally, at least). but it could be an adult. Usually is in fact.

The etymology is kinda like this:

biy(e) = boy

agie = not sure what the technical term is. The "familiar form"?

I've just done some detective work!

Does Gollach really mean Earwig? lol

Anyways I don't understand all this clishmaclaiver ;) So I suppose that makes me a bit of a baw juggler? and i don't have a scooby why you would call a polis car a jamsandwich and then call a jam sandwich a jeely piece!

Methinks your detective work has taken you south of the ord Porshiepoo! The Caithness dialect which has been quoted is quite distinct from other forms of Scots. If you want to be really confused you should try attending a Caithness dialect event such as the annual Festival - a lot of it is in the pronunciation!

Mind you, not sure where Chavvy Deeks comes from - must be a 'modern' addition!

QUOTE]
Yes it does mean an Earwig, it is a term of scorn inflicted on the good and kind folk of Caithness by those lowlanders from Sutherland. But its a good Caithness word and describes me to a tee LOL.
look up "Dialect" on the Caithness drop down menu and have a lesson and a laugh, Porshie and the best of luck at 'e pronounciation

I was always told that a golach was a big hairy spider - the reverse term is Cattach (what us caithnessians call the sutherlanders..... wildcat)
Whatever way you look at it, they get the best creature....
looks my mither was wrong aboot golach then....
