A pilot scheme has been launched in Brick Lane after it was found to have the highest number of 'walking and texting' injuries in the country.

Instead of padding, I'd like to see six-inch nails hammered through these lamp posts, pointy end out.

They'd soon learn to watch where they're going.

All the Scaffolding that goes up in Edinburgh, from street level all scaffolding is padded, this is not unusual its the law

It arrived in the Highlands before it got to London. Next time you drive around the country, look out for electricity poles where lines change direction. The wire stays are all enclosed in yellow tubes so the sheep don't trip over them. Honest. Very obvious around Dunbeath.

Every electricity pole or pylon now carries a warning that it is dangerous to climb up it. I hope to find one without a warning, climb up, get killed, sue, and live in luxury for the rest of my life.

As for the inattentitive peds, the sooner they bash their brains out the better.

True Golach, but scaffolding is an intrusion into a normal environment, and it has lumpy bits on it which can cause serious damage to you if you walk into it. Lamp posts and road signs are normal features, you expect them to be there.
The difference as I see it is that scaffolding is an intrusion which causes unexpected danger to others, but texters are a danger to themselves. Maybe it is time to ban texting while walking?

Anyone that intent on texting deserves to have some sense knocked into them. Instead of padding the lamp posts, they should fit CCTV on them so we can see the results.

What happens in the winter when the padding freezes ??? wouldnt a frozen lump of padding be just as sore to walk into as a lampost or would we just put padding on the frozen padding to make sure or just have a heater beside each lampost to make sure the padding doesnt freeze ???

well can i get the lamppost outside my house padded,cause when the kids and the other half annoy me and also when i am trying to tell them something i wouldnt have to bang my head on a brick wall i could just nip outside and bang it on the padded lamppost[lol][lol]

I would recommend padded lamp posts for the safety of young neds who climb them from time to time.

A few years ago my wife and I saw a young drunken ned at the top of a lamp-post on the Cliff Road. His mates watched as he slid down at full speed like Batman going down the Bat Pole. Unfortunately for this particular Caped Crusader he met the area where the post widens out, cobblers-first and used his Bat Bawz as brakes. He came off that pole walking like a cross between Groucho Marx and a saddle-sore John Wayne. He staggered up to my missus and with a tear in his eye he groaned "Oh Wifie Ma Stonz are sore"

My wife's reply of "Stones? Grit more like!!" brought hoots of delight from his watching mates.

I was told those tubes are to protect the stays. If sheep etc habitually trail their feet over them or use them to itch themselves it wears off the galvanising, thus leading to the wire corroding sooner.
