Thinking of getting meself a little bit of land for some veggies, chickens ,n sheep. maybe some wee little piggies too. Just a little smallholding kinda thing.

I don't know much about croftland though, do I need to get croftland or do I just do something to make it croftland?

Do I need to bother at all? Can I just get on and do it regardless.

thanks

You don't need to bother at all, you can just get on a do it, you can rent/buy land, doesn't need to be croftland. Unless of course you want to specifically have croftland. Contact the Crofters Commission www.crofterscommission.co.uk

croft land if you want to buy it needs to be paid up front, as a general rule croft land cannot be borrowed upon, banks will not hold it as security as the crofters commission still govern it even if you have bought it.

Just because you want to effectively croft doesnt mean the land you use has to be registered croft land you can buy any bit of land and do so as you wish with it - within reason!!!
