If you really want entertained then you should listen to the Stephen Nolan show on Radio 5 at the same time.

Topical debate, but with the extremes represented, well worth a listen and on times a cracking laugh!

Loch not Lock: "You will be amazed and addicted - I promise you". Don't think you are supposed to multi-post - you've put this same post on 'Afghanistan #50 - sneaky that one)
Anyway watch the show?
You're a bit delusional there lad.. Aren't you aware; these left-wing dinosaurs died out years ago, they are just an irrelevance, a bit of amusement.
If he was any good, and Joe Public believed in him, he'd get more support, ok so he left (kicked out of) the Labour Party and founded Respect in association with the SWP (Socialist Workers Party) - was that the lot that Tommy Sheridan split with going off to form the Solidarity Party? Some former members of the Socialist Alliance, including the Workers Liberty and Workers Power groups, objected to forming a coalition with Galloway, citing his political record, and his refusal to accept an average workers wage, with Galloway claiming "I couldn’t live on three workers’ wages"

All these left-wing party's it's oh so confusing!..

(Seem to remember George being attacked by a group of Muslim Fundamentalist in April 2005 and was threatened with a fatwa?) And all this after his visit to Iraq in which Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was in attendance, he said "Sir, I salute your courage, your strength, your indefatigability".. !

"The best thing British Troops can do is refuse to obey illegal orders (Galloway; I'll fight expulsion; BBC News 2003-04-07).

Yep, he's just an irrelevance, won't get anywhere, will continue to amuse us more pragmatic spectators and continue to amaze other... I for one won't be watching, I'd rather watch rain running down the windows..

Oh yea he apposes Scottish Independence too..

Given the man's vanity, I think George is more Max Factor than O'Reilly Factor.

Have you met him? He is something else, a prima donna of the highest order. He has an army of helpers and groupies to protect him from his fans and his detractors alike. He's good at what he does though, his obsession with the mirror may reflect badly on him, but he charms the ladies with a glint in his eye and his silvery tongue laps his lips like... I'd better not say that or I'll get another warning from the admin.

His epitaph should read, 'Here lies the King of the chancers, he took his chances and everyone else's with them.'

Having listened to his show I was quite inspired by what he said but.......he circumvents around the acknowledgement that there is no going back to a Palestine, the deed has been done in the 1950s, there we have it, here is Israel, we can't wipe it off the planet.

So what they going to do?:confused

Negotiate with terrorists? Who are they? Are they representing those who fire the rockets and blow themselves up? They can't negotiate even if the Israelis want to.

No wonder for every Israeli killed they want to kill 100 palestinians.

One thing for George Galloway he seems try to instigate debate.. but then we have this buffoon who came out with this in an interview earlier this week on Radio Scotland between BBC's Colin Mackay and Lord George Foulkes:-
GF: "The SNP are on a very dangerous tack at the moment. What they are doing is trying to build up a situation in Scotland where the services are manifestly better than south of the Border in a number of areas."
CM: "Is that a bad thing?"
GF: "No. But they are doing it deliberately"
Unreal and to think people actually voted for him and he is one of the heads of the Scottish Labour party as well
Beeg Hugheeeeee
PS Lord help Foulkes if he ever has to debate with Gordon Campbell

I remember a time when Tony Benn was ridiculed as much as Galloway is at the moment, and faced accusations of being in bed with corrupt regimes.

He never wavered from his principled stance, and I don't see Galloway doing so either.

Just like London's beloved Red Ken, Galloway will always have the support of the people in the know.

Benn and Galloway should not be mentioned in the same breath. The latter is not fit to lace the formers brogues.
Galloway is a joke...Benn is the elder statesman of the left and one of the few remaining politicians for whom I have any time at all. I don't agree with him on many things but he has my utmost respect.

Galloway? A jerk. That's Geordie for a 'joke'

Benn can debate an issue, Galloway just shouts his opinion and tries to drown the opposing view. His style is that of the bully, there is no thought, strategy or guile in Galloway's debating (sic) manner.

I could probably find a thousand websites damning the Blair and Bush regimes, but I take them all with a huge pinch of salt. Nothing is as it seems.

In fairness to Galloway the investigation mentioned on your link...

"UPDATE: On the 21st December, 2005, and in light of the findings of the Congressional and UN investigations into the Oil-for-food, the Uk Charities Commission begin a new investigation into Galloway's Mariam Appeal."

Should at least be worthy of this update...

"all the appeal's money was spent on humanitarian aid."

That was the conclusion of the Charity Commission.

Wonder why the site in question has not updated their page?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6732575.stm

They did point out that some of the money came from suspect sources, but who doesn't take money from suspect sources these days?

Does this mean that Blair or Cameron should be investigated by the US Congress?

:)

Can you find the one where he read out an email from one of his listeners, about the conflict in Palestine/Israel, which was sent in by "Gloria Stitz"?

"Thanks for that, Gloria", he said. :D

I remember when he started the radio show, he quite often made some monumental errors. Hawksbee and Jacobs' 'Clips Of The Week' used to (and still does ;)) feature him a lot.

As a politician, he has his own agenda, always.
As an orator, he is simply magnificent in putting his point across.

I think a lot of people on the message board knew very little about George Galloway before Big Brother, and the 'knowledge' they have garnered from the gutter press and biased media in general since is all they really care to find out.

If all he ever did wrong in a life so packed full was indulge in harmless play acting on a TV show it would be truly exceptional.

Can none of you find some dirt to dig?

Your need to disparage those of us who admire him is equalled only by your inability to rationalise such.

I first encountered him in the eighties, and my opinion formed then and unchanged since is that he is one of the most impressive and energetic advocates of human rights and justice we have.

No wonder he is a thorn in the side of the establishment.

Were we in old South Africa or East Germany he would be in prison right now; not that he won't end up there at some point as the US and UK governments are not averse to fitting a man up.

I think a lot of people on the message board knew very little about George Galloway before Big Brother, and the 'knowledge' they have garnered from the gutter press and biased media in general since is all they really care to find out.

Speak for yourself - I am only too aware of this man and none of it garnered via the 'gutter press'.

Maybe those of us who don't prostrate ourselves in front of his image every morning are becoming tired reading about his every move. Next we'll be getting the times of his daily ablutions...

"George will be having a poo at two"...[lol]

I do try to speak for myself as a rule.

I did say 'a lot of people', not all.

Why on earth do you keep opening the thread entitled George Galloway?

Is this not a example of the workman and his sandwiches?

I'm not "opening" it - my previous post was on 9 Mar 16:23. Since then scorrie has posted as has Loch Not Lock and bekisman, northerner and JAWS

Today we have had the following "open" this thread...

I presume you meant in the media in general then?

Hopefully you are not truly offended by the mere sight of his name at the head of this thread?

You are certainly not compelled to read it. The same applies to the other places you might see writings relating to the Great One. Move along.

Moreover, you have equalled my postings to this thread, within a hair.

You are indeed making the sandwiches you don't like!

I am buying one of those leotards for my wife, and a Galloway mask. She is not able to speak like him, but I have a CD with bird call and jet noise to play, for legal reasons. :D

Like him or loath him I urge fellow forumites to listen to his programme on Talksport between 10pm and 1am tonight. You can receive it on your computer or on Sky Channel 0108.
I faithfully promise that you will be entertained. Just give it a chance.
Fact - it is the fastest growing radio programme in Britain.
I eagerly await your reviews later on. Thank you.

Listen to his show when I'm working and it's usually entertaining but not as much as Jon Gaunt's morning show which is the best thing on radio. His views on the feckless, the feral and freeloading foreigners are priceless! Never a dull moment.

What you're forgetting is that these people are talk radio show hosts. It is their job to get people to 'phone in, to either argue or agree. Usually it's much easier to get people to argue with your point, simply by being outrageous. A la Gaunt and to a lesser extent Galloway and Whale in the evenings.

I don't believe any of these people actually believe the opinions they spout (well, except for Galloway but then that's understandable as he has a natural ability to wind people up. Which is good. ;))

It's all designed simply to get a response.

I have watched various news broadcasts with no mention of today's peace rally led by Tony Benn in Trafalgar Square. Although up to 40,000 turned up to support a withdrawal of our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan it was ignored on the news.
I wonder WHY????:confused

When the countryside pro-foxhunting demonstrated in their tweeds last year it got major coverage although the numbers were considerably less.
WHY???
We need a proper Labour Party and not this New(Tory)Labour Party.

I wonder WHY????:confusedProbably because it's as predictable as the sun going down in the evening. It is unusual for the BBC to miss such things, they usually would have seen at least 100,000 there.

Besides, there are slightly more important things going on in the World than a two bit demonstration at present such as the people being butchered on the streets of Chinese Occupied Tibet.

I don't here many complaints about the constant suffering of the downtrodden, innocent civilians in that occupied Country.

Police reckoned that only 10,000 were actually there...The technique to get the true figure is to halve what the organisers say or double what the Police say. That invariably works ant the total there would be about 20,000.

Put another way, about as many turned up for this world shattering event as went to watch Portsmouth play Aston Villa at football on the same day.
If you look very carefully you may find both places on a map of Great Britain, if you have an hour or so to spare that is. And the crowd there probably had a more exciting time waiting for the match to start.

Good point. Just a side note I am shocked by the treatment of the people of Tibet. In addition I am saddened to learn our government has not yet agreed to meet the Dali Lama when he is here in May.

Back to thread I was disappointed to here some orgers put down the demonstration. Demonstrations may not be effective anymore but I think any attempt by the people to get out troops home and safe must be a good thing.

Invariably?

How many of us were at the 2003 demo?

1.5M or 1M?

The demo this weekend was not a centralised rally, there were local demos all over.

Put another way, about as many turned up for this world shattering event as went to watch Portsmouth play Aston Villa at football on the same day.

On the same day eight million probably tuned in to watch Ant and Dec or whatever was on the telly; what relevance does that have?

Having listened to some more of his shows I am convinced he should skip the music and just talk.

This man on form is an amazing example of unbridled oratory prowess; such genius commands a permanent world stage!

Any chance we could shoe him in as El Presidente de la Unión Europea?

How do you think George Dubya would like that?

I think it is akin to when male teenagers used to buy female comics for posters of pop stars to put on their walls - Gorgeous George is a wee bit of a hero for Loch not Lock and I assume that by emialing him he kind of kids himself that he actually matters to George.
