Dessie_darts I'm afraid that Deemac is right - you do need a sizeable zoom lens or a telescope to get detailed photos of the Moon.

Considering your camera is limited to a 5x optical zoom though I'd say the photos you got of the Moon were pretty good, if a little overexposed. It's often thought that at full Moon is the best time to photograph it, but you can get some interesting results photographing the crescent Moon - see photo below showing Earthshine taken using a tripod mounted compact camera.
