A fine and cloudless winters day out at a 'proper' castle...surely one of Britain's finest? Grand-daughter (5) said 'I never knew Castles like this really existed' - she was wheeled around Harlech as a bairn but it's obviously slipped her mind.

Thanks for those two pics, percy. I love visiting castles, and have never been to that one before - nor Wales, for that matter! Do you also have a video to share with us, please?

Thanks Sporran....I didn't take the video cam - thought I'd give it a rest and keep a hand free for minding g/d on those high towers!
I have some footage of Harlech Castle - which is almost as fine imho...will check it out and if good I'll edit a wee movie out of it. Welsh Castles are, in my humble opinion the best! I hesitate to say many of 'em were built by the English I think.;)

Aww - that picture brought back some happy memories!

Wales is my fave place - we were at Conwy Castle in the Summer. My son loved it - although I was a bit of a coward and wouldn't go up to the high parts, so his Uncle did that part!

Great pic!

It's exactly how you imagine a castle should look.

A Knight on a Charger wouldn't be out of place in that fist pic.

Great pictures percy, any more where those came from?

Percy, that would be great, thanks! :) Now I've got the song "Men of Harlech" playing in my head, lol!

It was built by Edward I. Remember Braveheart? 'The Hammer of the Scots' 'Longshanks' played by Patrick McGoohan. He built the castle to supress the Welsh so I guess he did little for island unity eh? Whatever the travails of our turbulent history the fact that such great structures remain bear witness to a nation forged from a crucible of violence and eventually learning to tolerate, even love one another and fight shoulder to shoulder when threatened from without.
