Hi there, does anybody use Tiscali for their broadband ?
Are they a good provider ?

I am thinking of dumping AOL as they have started to let me down after 5 years of loyal membership. (long story).

Any info would be great.

Tiscali are fine, a bit slow but fine. Their forums are good.;)

have tiscali for past 2 yrs ..so far so good.. 8meg download and free fone calls day and night and international ......for 20 quid month

p.s dont think i get 8 meg very often!!!!! but had no probs

I used to have unlimited downloads, but seemingly I now have a limit which I was not told about.
2 teenagers in the house, 4 computers and with the likes of 4OD and BBCi the 20 Gig limit is reached very quickly, so AOL reduce my speed to about 0.3meg download because We use too much !!

Have you heard of the likes.

I have 7.2meg on my line and can't use it !! AAARGH !

just have the 2 comps but one is usually downloading (kids on desk top)so i dont get my full speed on mine (laptop)..lol but got to say have phoned customer care a couple times and they have been good , never to my memory been down.. only now and again. your message page slows up ..but really cant complain:lol:

i am in wick and have had tiscali for over 2 yrs and had no problem whatsoever!!!!!!!!!!!! ALWAYS been able to connect!!

Been scanning through the service providers I have never heard of before, but some of them have quite good looking packages.

I will spend some careful time reading before I jump into a new contract.

If all you're after is a basic connection to the internet, with no expectation of experiencing high download speeds or low ping-rates (for gaming) then sure, go for Tiscali. They're cheap at £7 per month, and they'll only tie you into a 12 month contract, and their support desk is outsourced to India, employing script-monkeys who know less about internet protocols than you do.

However, if you have a brain, opt for someone else. (As long as that someone else isn't Orange. ;))

I'm the same calish,thinkin of gettin rid of AOL too.The one might be BT Broadband so far ma compadres are at 50/50 some think its ....not good(see how i have learnt) and some think its good.

Good, I'm glad for you, and I hope you have a happy relationship with your ISP for a long time to come.

I'd personally opt for an ISP that doesn't restrict the use of the letter 's' though... ;)

I used Tiscali for a short time only. I found that for anything more than web browsing and email, they did not perform.

I should mention that my average download/upload usage is around 35 to 40 gig per month, so I was always falling foul of fair use policies (so much for 'Unlimited' broadband). If anyone is using bandwidth at the rate I do, I would recommend a capped service from an isp who specialises in performance.
Couple of names spring to mind: Idnet, AAISP (expensive, but darn good) Entanet. I've used all three, and they are good. If your needs are more modest, I think the main line providers are very much of a muchness.

I currently pay £19.99 for a usage of 30gig peak and total 300gig package from entanet. Email I do myself via my own domain, saves mucking about if I change provider.

Signed up yesterday to Falconnet, Think it is the same as entanet.
Same deal 30/300 for 19.99.
At least the contracts are for 1 month at a time, so if they don't work very well, I can try another without being stuck for 18 months !.

I signed up for tiscali a few days ago....sounds good to me..... £8.49 for first 3 months then £14.99 thereafter. 8 meg speeds and unlimited bandwith!

I took your advisment on board.
Looked around and I saw other sites who have a gripe with Tiscali.

Therefore I have signed up with Falconnet and so far they have been very helpfull and the communication is spot on.
Can't Fault them so far, and as the contract is only 1 month at a time, I can ditch them whenever I want.

absolutely right!
Somebody in Tiscali marketing obviously made some kind of deal with the Blarney Stone. There is a quagmire of small print, loopholes, excuses and get-out clauses in the Tiscali contract and the Tiscali internet service. Tiscali exist for one purpose only - and it is not to do you any favours.

Fair enough rob16d, if money isn't exactly growing on trees for you then you'd be daft to turn an offer like that down.

Only problem is the minimum 12 month contract, whereby it'll cost you a small fortune to get out of your contract if anything was to go drastically wrong, or if you end up totally peeved off at the shocking level of service you receive.

You get what you pay for, I'm afraid, and you'll no doubt get exactly that. Good luck anyway, though.

Thanks....I will stick in with the contract, I signed up for line rental with bt and wanted the package without a contract...but they put a contract on....so I'm gonna stick in with that. If I have to stay then so be it...at least I can tell others of my experience...good or bad! Hehe! Will let you know how I get on then!
