You may be right, Justine. Research results from Dr Ron N Hyde, a noted statistician and global warming expert (http://forum.caithness.org/go.php?url=http://wmbriggs.com/blog/2008/02/13/global-warming-stress-syndrome-increasing-psychologist-says/).

I'm getting a bit worried about the potential for zombie attacks:eek: Doctor Ron obviously knows his stuff:roll:

Oh, no. On the heels of warnings about heatwaves and malaria from the Government, now this:

GLOBAL WARMING TO BRING CANNIBALISM TO SOUTH EAST

CLIMATE change will transform the south east of England into a steaming jungle filled with giant snakes and marauding tribes of blood-thirsty cannibals, scientists have predicted.

Researchers at the Institute for Studies have warned that unless carbon emissions are reduced Essex and Kent will resemble the darkest reaches of Amazonia, probably in about 18 months time.

Professor Henry Brubaker said: "First will come the mosquitos. They will be huge, about the size of a crow. Then the giant snakes will arrive to feast on the mosquitos.

"Within months towns including Colchester, Ashford, Gravesend, and possibly even Braintree, will be little more than mangrove swamps. However, local rail services should be unaffected."

He added: "Before long the populations will be reduced to primal savagery. Unable to grow crops on the dark jungle floor they will raid each others settlements with the victors feasting upon the flesh of the vanquished.

"The strongest tribes, driven on by their insatiable lust for human flash, will soon descend upon the slow, fat people of Hampshire."

Meanwhile doctors are warning that fewer old people will die as a result of rising temperatures.

Dr Wayne Hayes, of the British Medical Association, said: "Warmer winters will mean more OAPs I'm afraid."
He added: "If you feel that your local community is being overrun, then it might be an idea to nudge one of them under a bus."

I believe the 2003 heatwave caused 30,000 lives across the continent. In a warming world we should expect more of these events and prepare and prevent such things happening.

It does state that even if we have a heat wave before 2012 and people do suffer, the fact that the winter months are milder and there are less deaths ant this time of the years. weighs up the odds....It is just nice to see that the act of global warming is not all bad on us poor folks......I did notice a story about farming for biofuels, to help cut global warming, although they do reakon that this will make the problem worse..What are the best ways to tackle all these problems. It6 seems that by the time they figure it all out it will be too late....

I don't think it's that they haven't figured it out, governments have just never had the guts to take any serious action. So you're right - as usual it will be too little too late. We've known about global warming for years (and years!) and so much could have been done sooner but I suspect those in a position to do anything are playing for time and hoping for a miracle.

Single example - for years we have known how to build practically self-sufficient houses but did they change the building regs. to make them mandatory? Instead you're more likely to have a problem getting one through planning. Technology could have got us out of this mess long ago.

Yes they could but that would mean spending too much public money which they happen to be spending on joining the space race and building things like a new space centre for countless millions..The government dont have a clue as to what to do.How they can tell us public we need to do more but then come out with more ridiculuos plans like space...I would love an eco friendly house and i know that the legislation on homes now mean they have to be greener, but it is a joke..We all spend money doing this and they just spend money on making it worse...

I'm agree. Last thing we need is more people.

Compulsory sterilisation for all new-born boys would solve that one though, eh? They can have it reversed when they're 25 and have passed the relevant Parenthood Test and proved themselves financially capable.

But that is of course, an aside.

Pretty good aside - I can think of a lot of problems that would solve all in one go.

Yup - sterilisation should certainly take care of that. And, of course, stop more C02 being breathed into the atmosphere......

As for global warming, I'm all in favour of Caithness being as warm as the south of France is now. Any takers?

Couldn't possibly happen even if it were to solve problems. There are simply too many human rights fanatics in high places.
