I was expecting a parcel to arrive on Tuesday.... Didn't arrive.
Oh well never mind I thought, it'll arrive tomorrow.... Nope
Thursday, waited in again (no choice really) and received a text from Parceline "Your parcel will arrive today". Yay! I won't be stuck indoors anymore!!... Didn't arrive
Friday, rang those who sent the parcel and got a tracking number, parceline's website told me the parcel was put on the van for delivery yesterday. Rang parceline to confirm this and they told me the parcel had been passed to AJG.

Okay... so I rang AJG 3pm, they told me it was on the van and would be delivered today.
6pm still no sign, so I rang AJG again.
"Yes the lady said it was put on the van for delivery yesterday at 13.30, so you won't have it until Monday."

I explained to her that as I've been stuck in the house for 4 days waiting for a parcel. I'd missed the fact that Caithness had obvously floated off out to sea and that I fully understand that they now require 4 days to get here.

Good grief! I've got cabin fever of the worst kind!
They'll find me rocking back and forth in a corner and eating my own hair at this rate!

Sapphire what you need to understand is that as far as delivery agencies are concerned we are not on the mainland. The mainland ends at Inverness. Parcels stop of there for a wee coffee and a cake and maybe a wee bit breakfast before going to the "Islands" past the Black Isle, Ross-Shire, Sutherland and hey presto Caithness.

I have wrestled with this issue on many occasions...drives me potty. [evil]

I was quoted £630 this week for next day delivery, no, I wasn't buying a new car, it was a wee box of frozen mice. I would have been cheaper flying down to collect it myself.
We are being ripped off with delivery times and prices, we ARE part of the Mainland, it's just not fair!

have done a lot of shopping on internet, when they ask for post code, have found that kw1 for wick , is same as kirkwall in orkney and is not on mainland?

I've had trouble before but, never like this. The woman sounded amazed that I would expect it to have travelled here from Inverness in a mere 28 hours!

They say people walk at an average of 2 1/2 mph, so maybe it would have been faster for me to do a walkathon to collect it?!

It does annoy me when I try to buy something online and they quote me ridiculous prices for p&p. Grrrrr

I had the same problem, I was looking for beds for my kids and found ones that were resonably priced and the delivery charges were £35 but then I noticed for postcodes starting KW etc etc see below, they wanted an extra £50 EACH bed for delivery!I gave up after that  x

There's only one answer for it - take your business elsewhere. If Viking Direct can do free delivery on orders over £30, and Screwfix for orders over £100, etc. then, unless you're really ordering something weird (frozen mice ) shop around until you find someone who'll do it at reasonable costs.

One of my main stationery suppliers was told by their courier that deliveries to the Highlands were now going to be £25 regardless. They passed this information to me so I said bye bye to them. I've just received their new catalogue and, lo & behold, they have moved courier and can now offer free delivery for orders over £30!

Why you looking at me like that:lol: my snakes need to eat too.
I usually use someone closer to home but found these people who did it much cheaper. Obviously because of where I live live this is not the case. I will stick to what I know from now on.
It's not wierd tho!

What I'd like to know is why are we under the Kirkwall postcode and why so much of Caithness and Sutherland?

I notice on ebay quite often that delivery to KW (amongst others) incurs an extra delivery charge, why is this, it does not cost any extra to post to Wick as it does Inverness!

Instead of closing the Post Offices maybe an overhaul of the postal service and codes should be considered. They would probably save themselves money by keeping the lorries on the road delivering parcels to the islands...sorry I mean Caithness, Sutherland, Ross-Shire and the Black Isle.

If companies can send items post free, why are we paying premiums living on the mainland...maybe someone can come up with a list of companies that don't charge premiums for posting to this area. Or companies who know that we are on the mainland and don't stop the delivery men at Inverness.

www.play.com (http://www.play.com) is my offering

Free post and cheap prices.

Whaaaaaaaat? £630, I get mine from Acorn in Inverness, they order on a Saturday, so if you phone and place an order for them and ask them to wrap them up as you will collect them before you go back to Caithness, you can shop etc in the day and pick them up just before heading back. I take a small coolerbag/box in the summer and they stay fine til I get back home.

I find when I order on the .net they hike the price up for delivery,so I phonethem, explain the 2 hours north of Inverness and most companies lower the delivery cost. I ordered a fireplace from Devon? (I think) and it was a bargain to have it delivered, it arrived 4 days later.;)

I buy regularly from Goodness Direct and delivery is free if you spend over £35. They use City-Link and I usually receive my order 24 hours after they send it out.

Maplin.co.uk also have free posting on orders over £35 and the items arrive really fast.

I have had lots of problems with companies wanting to overcharge for delivery up here, but I always manage to find others who don't.

I used to do alot of buisness with parcel force, and i had the same sort of problem, 24hr delivery took 3 days and 48hr took 5 days (if you were lucky)
as for the sur charge for delivery to caithness, i find it annoying, we are still mainland uk we didnt float off any where, so why such a price increase??
people in cornwall or the isle of wight dont have to pay any extra and i am sure they get a better service. ITS NOT FAIR!!![mad]

In your original post, Sapphire, you said you were waiting for a parcel on Tuesday, but in true Caithness time did you not think to ask the delivery company "Tuesday?.....which Tuesday, this week or next?" It has worked a treat with the council and courier delivery lads with me in the past.

Caithness hasn`t moved, it has a time warp all of its own though

What I forgot to mention is that the sender paid for next day delivery, there was a delay and they didn't post it until Wednesday. So, That surely means next day = Thursday, or in Caithness time = Friday.

But Monday??!!

I recieve and send test items for the post office to make sure that mail is reaching it's destination on time. Know how frustrating it is waiting for items that take ages to arrive. Placed an order for 2 items last week and am still waiting [disgust].

Here's a good one for you - I ordered a chest of drawers from Tesco.com yesterday and got an email today to say that the item should be delivered by Friday 31st December 9999. Where the hell is this chest of drawers coming from!
