What's BT up to?

just had some stuff in the post from BT telling me I now have 'free UK weekend calls' at no extra charge as I'm a BT Together Option 1 customer, and if I like, I can sign up to free UK evening calls as well, (BT option 2) nothing extra, apart from a 12 month contract. I've tried contacting BT to see what the catch is (isn't there always?) but can't get through..

At the moment I'm using onetel for my calls via prefix. Has anyone else had this letter? or any comments

I've just received a copy of this letter, bekisman. I'd already seen something about it on TV.

I don't think there necessarily is a catch, other than the acceptance of a 12 month contract.

That doesn't bother me, as I've no plans to move my landline from BT and am considering moving to BT internet and BT vision.

Yes, they are offering all sorts of 'deals' at the moment (ours was a cut in our line rental) and what they are after is that new 12 month contract from you.

These offers tend to appear when you are reaching the end of your current contract.....wonder what sort of price hike they have planned that they are so keen to lock us in for another year?;)

TBH, I wasn't even aware that I had a fixed term contract with BT.

I have BT Together Option 1, and from 1st April my line rental will increase by 75p per month, but my discount for paper free billing will increase by 50p.

Unless I've missed something, the net result in my case - a 25p net monthly increase, with free weekend and evening calls - suits me well.

For a while now I've been trying to put my line over to Virgin, and Virgin tell me I have a conflicting service, and then BT tell me I don't, and it's back and forth for LONG time now.. Wonder if all us folks thinking of changing have caused BT to try a different approach to hang onto us?
