Was wondering if anyone knows of any websites/programmes where you can design your own birthday party invitations. It is for a kids birthday party. Would appreciate any suggestions. Many thanks

don't know about design your own but Party Packs (http://www.partypacks.co.uk/?gclid=CPielZSBpJECFShCZwodtCA_WQ) do a huge range of party stuff

If you have microsoft office, try the desk top publishing package. "Publisher". Its fairly straightforward, has basic designs that you can customise to suit yourself. Failing that Hallmark.com might be useful.
