can anybody tell me if Dunnets will do waranty work on a ford car if it wasn't purchased from them. i have heard they wont.

I've commented on here before abut Dunnets abysmal record. Basically they'll fob you off unless you get Ford customer service to lean on them.

Then they'll probably give you a date so far into the future you won't want to take it.

I got a load of baloney about "being unable to do warranty work".
Funny really, as the first question both Wick and Thurso branches asked me was "did you buy it from us?".................[disgust]

Guess who's not getting the order for my new commercial![lol]

I've also noticed that even though they advertise on here on a regular basis, they've never tried to defend themselves on the forum. I'm sure they don't spend their days looking for threads about themselves, but I'd be very suprised if they haven't got wind of the criticism on here.

i actualy have 5 ford transits that i manage at work and they won't do any waranty work but will service them and fit tyres to them

TO get warranty on any car it has to be serviced by a a reccomended dealer to make the warranty valid but i would be suprised if they dont because they still make money on warranty work they claim it of the manufacture the only reason i could think of if they dont is that if its to much hasstle in paperwork to go about claiming it of the manufacturer and thats why the will only do it with there own customers that buy cars from them.
But the bottom line is if they wont do it report them to the ford manufacture because u should be entilted to warranty work form any ford dealer in the uk provided u have been getting it serviced from a ford dealer.

I thought that it was now the case that as long as the proper service parts are used you can get the service done at any garage. They cannot make you go to the stealers where they may charge you £80 an hour for a pimply 17 year old on £5 an hour to put in oil and top up the washers on your car!

All warranty work is carried out in the Thurso garage.
Cars not bought from them were done in about 1 months time.
Always greeted with "Did you buy it from us?"
Nightmare to deal with and Ford are'nt much better.
Avoid both like the plague.

It's probably to do with how much Ford are willing to pay Dunnets for carrying out warranty work. Probably less than their normal hourly rate.

I do know they charge £10 an hour more for private customers than what they charge the insurance companies, simply because the insurance have an upper limit on what they will pay.

Shame really, because the workers in Dunnets do a good job.

It seems to say that if you are an Authorised Repairer, you must also have Warranty and Vehicle Recall services available to the customer.

To maintain the validity of a warranty from Ford,

`The vehicle must have been serviced as recommended in the Ford Service Plan'. It's usually best to ensure that genuine manufacturers replacement parts are used by the garage carrying out the servicing.

There is no legal requirement to have purchased the vehicle from a particular dealer to obtain work under warranty from them. If you purchase a Focus from Dunnet's and it requires work under warranty while you are touring in France, then the local dealer will carry out the work for you once it has been authorised as warranty work by Ford.

That is our understanding also. We put genuine parts on all cars as long as they're under the manufacturers guarantee/warranty. After this time it is up to the customer if they wish to continue with those OR aftermarket products. Our experience is also that once you lean on the Ford helpline, it smoothes the way for warranty work to be undertaken by the Ford dealership nearest the client.
