Well non-Islamic ones anyway. I'm sure this pair of fruit loops would have been looking at 20 years if they were called Abu Sporran and Ally Ben Tab Nab:

Double standards abound, very true!

Tyldesley, Greater Manchester, an Englishman!

You could not make that up!

Hello Girls and or Boys,

I am new in this agust formum and this is a test of my posting skills.

Someone states "UK is Soft on Terrorists." and "Well non-Islamic ones anyway."

and ".. if they were called Abu Sporran and Ally Ben Tab Nab:"

1.) Firstly how does one define "terrorism"
2.) What if they were called Dave Allison, Muslim

Your starter for one.

If Dave Allison was a Muslim, he would be required to take a Muslim name.

I suppose making sure they spent their terms of imprisonment in English gaols would redress the balance somewhat:D

There always has to be a 'bogeyman', it's the Muslims and, increasingly, Eastern Europeans' turn in the barrel at the moment.

No doubt the courts didn't view these two as a serious threat to the public as a whole.

Just as they wouldn't have viewed any Islamic terrorists as a serious threat 20 years ago.........

Only David Allison I know is a not bad guitarist, saw him at the Edinburgh Fringe once, dont think he was ever a terrorist, muslim or otherwise.

I know of David Allison the little musician.

We are not related and he is not a Muslin, I am told.

The BBC article quotes "getting the British Government out of Scotland."
Their are many people who would like to get the Scottish Government out of England!

Dude, that is a myth.

Yes, it appears I was mis-informed. I was under the impression that although you could keep your surname, you required to change your "Christian" name - this is indeed false, apologies.

Actually spoke with a Muttawah this mornign on this subject, and he told me that there are a few who may try to infleunce a person to take an "Islamic" name, but it is not somehting he would encourage himself.

Talking of Muttawahs, when I was speaking to my mother
recently and asked why I had been given the Jewish name
David.
I know David appears in the Qur'an but when I was in Eretz Israel in the 1970's my name caused me a bit of grief.

The Jews thought I was Jewish and the Muslims thought I was Jewish.
Thinking back I should have said my name is jimmy frae glasgow.

Wasn't Richard Reid a muslim convert aka the shoe bomber?

'Uk is soft on Terrorist' ?
Yep; Richard Read (shoe Bomber) was mentioned. Over here in UK he would most likely be out after 25-30 years.

The US?: He was sentenced to life imprisonment on each of the three charges, 20 years imprisonment on four other charges, and 30 years on four other counts, to be served consecutively, followed by five years of supervised release. Eight fines of $250,000, restitution of $298.17, and $5,784,800 special assessment were imposed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Colvin_Reid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Colvin_Reid)

(I like the "five years of supervised release" so they would keep an eye on him till he was 115..)

The total of 110 years of imprisonment in addition to the life sentences was more than the prosecution had requested. The terms will run consecutively and effectively rule out any chance for parole, correspondents say. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/2708205.stm (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/2708205.stm)

It once crossed my mind to become a martyr. However, there is not a lot in it for girls. 76 virgins may be a mans idea of heaven but for us girls it equates to two coach loads of 14 year old boys who have no idea what they are doing.
