The general section of the org is reminding me of the BBC at the moment, they dont know what new ideas to breathe fresh air so the same old monotonous repeats (threads) just keep coming up mixed in with some right unbelievable topics which just dumbfounds me

Im not gonna pick out the endless threads as its obvious but the general forum is worse than a dentists waiting room at the moment and has been for a while. Same old reiterated subjects time and time again, all whinging and moaning and about this and that, instead of getting off there lazy bum cheeks and getting out into the real world and making a stand.

I reckon Kleenex should be at the entrance to the General forum handing out boxes to dry a lot of members eyes with all the greetin and gurning that gets done.

Caithness and proud----more like a laughing stock on the net at the moment,,, makes embarrassing reading some of it!!!!!!

cheer up folks and be happy instead of waiting 'for example' on a leaf which is slightly out of shape to blow past you so you can delve into even more depression and start posting threads about it on here.

--------------------------------------
Estimated debatable replies to my comment

If your that bothered about it dont read those threads......

Well Its the only threads there seems to be, im just saying change the record and cheer up!!!!!

Nobody else has these issues looks like your just wanting an argument

You will probally find a lot of people would agree with my comment though may not post because of backlash from others which is fair enough and true

Also im not trying for an argument as its a valid comment which reflects on the state of the board at the moment and im just hoping that positive threads start appearing instead of the same old dragging the place into doom and gloom negativity and repetitious threads all the time.

ah but you missed this possible reply.

Why don't the folks that pointlessly whine about pointless threads lead by example and post some good interesting topics for us lesser mortals to discuss...

High octane (http://forum.caithness.org/member.php?u=3426),

[no pun intended]

I have just joined this agust forum - See caithness spiritual church thread.

Perhaps you would care to discuss the European Union?
my specialist subject.

I'm not scared to stick my head above the parapet. Well said, Octane.

Anyone looking for info about Caithness will inevitably stumble on this site, and some of the questions posed would give them the strangest of ideas about those who live here.

threads do appear but fade away quickly as it has nothing of interest because

1- it doesnt involve gossip

2- its not negative enough

3- not a cause for childish arguments

4- it doesnt fall into the repeat loop category

5- too much humour or induces a smile which is taboo

list goes on

so maybe the forum should just be closed down?

na, its got the potential to get its head back out the sand and for people to think positive and enjoy life instead of focusing on all the bad things

People don't want good news. Just look at what is pumped out by the media. All that is bad is paraded in front of us time after time. They used to finish with the odd 30 second clip of water-skiing squirrels to lighten the tone but that seems to be gone now.

I reckon that all the depressing stuff actually makes you feel better. Who would want to know that Amy Winehouse was happy in all facets of life, for example?

Now that WOULD be depressing!!

Maybe it's a govern-mental (well, they control the media do they not?) plot to keep the downtrodden proles in their place by making them feel happier than they really are? ;)

Well said Octane; know where you are coming from but, as with elections, the majority rule the roost (hence magazines like "Chat" et al and anything else that perpetuates "celebrities" etc.,) and that is the way it will always be. There are bolsheviks and mensheviks everywhere but who says which are right?

Because there is no right, only different sets of values, different ideas on entertainment, stimulating debates etc., etc. and if we become members of forums we either promote what we want to see or put up or ship out.

For myself, depending on my mood or what is happening in my own life, I can go from enjoying the chatter here especially if it is lightsome and makes me smile or I can join in being sympathetic with someone else's situation and hopefully helping to make them feel better.

In other words, it's just like life itself; probably is a fair reflection of life in Caithness for those who come on here. I agree that it may not be the best place for promoting all of the people of Caithness and I'm sure visitors looking in can work that out for themselves just as if they went into the Camps bar late on a Saturday night I don't think they would necessarily think that is what goes on there every night or happens all over the county any more than if they attended one of our concerts of classical music, one of either of the players' plays, Skinandi's, the Lighthouse, arts venues etc.

If I was thinking of moving to another area I certainly wouldn't go by a forum alone; not without having a taste of everything else on offer which can be as diverse in Caithness, pro rata, as in any other place in Scotland.

I have to say that I agree in some ways.

The majority of threads in the General section that grow are the ones which allows you to have a good moan.

Sometimes negative threads are more popular than positive ones so they tend to stick near the top more.

What I expect to see when I log on:

Windfarms

Global Warming

State of the Roads / Council woes

Religous Rubbish

Personal Vendettas against dog owners

You get the idea....

So what's worth looking at? depressing threads?
Just had a look at the number of 'views' on a thread and it's quite a variety. Since 1st November last year.
1: 9,551 views "shops in Thurso"
2: 6,485 views "Tesco Thurso Imminent"
3: 5,579 views "Madeleine McCann"
4: 5,309 views "Suspended"
5: 4,912 views "Helicopter of Victoria walk"
6: 4,879 views "Guess what"
7: 4,580 views "Spoiling the Community at Bower"
8: 4,513 views "Polish Student selling pictures"
9: 4,464 views "Update on ASDA"

So what does this tell us? nothing really, just had a few spare minutes.. but no windfarms

I think Octane should be applauded for his candour in stating his honestly held view.
However, I do not necessarily agree with him/her.

Forums generally reflect what the forum is set up for.

This is a Caithness forum on a website about Caithness. So therefore we would expect to find people discussing matters (major or trivial) relevant to Caithness. Where's the problem with that?

We also would expect to find people discussing matters not relevant to Caihness but of interest to some of the forum members. Where's the problem with that?

Some people like to discuss topics which do not interest me, I like to discuss topics which do not interest others. Where's the problem with that?

I note from your profile that you started a thread warning us of the dangers of Scottish Gas. Please do not warn me about things like this, it is depressing me and pointless as I don't even have a gas supply - like a large sector of the Caithness community.

I can also see from your profile that you have contributed to a number of threads that do not interest me at all. Please desist from this negative practice and post something of interest to me;)
