Does anyone know anyone who can point a uni professor in the right direction for information on this Squadron at Skitten? Any info would be really appreciated. He asked me but I only knew what is posted on the Org.

There's a little information to be found using good old Google.

On the same subject, I looked at Skitten on Multimap. In the aerial view it shows some excavation in the ground in the middle of the 3 old runways. Anyone know what's going on there?

Also, given the way some people drive in Caithness, isn't it odd no-one ever turned the perimeter road of RAF Skitten into a nice race track?

Jon Ward is seeking anyone who may have known his Father Jack Eric Ward who was a pilot in Coastal Command. He trained in Canada and then from Sept 1943 to Sept 1944 he was stationed at RAF Wick with 519 squadron.
He was commissioned in Sept 1944 and transferred to 521 squadron - first at RAF Skitten, then from Feb 1945 at RAF Brawdy, and from June 1945 at RAF Chivenor.
Those he served with were, Squadron Leader Andrews, also Mayo, McGregor, 'Lofty; Gullen. His crew members were Bob Innes (Canadian), Bren Mulligan (Canadian) Ron "Izzy" Hayes the Navigator (Australian) and Charles Thurgood.I wonder if there are any wickers who remember these people?

Did 633 Squadron ever fly from Skitten?

My Dad attended a service at Skitten a number of years ago. He was an ex para. There was an article in the Groat or Courier about it at the time and I seem to recall an article since then. Maybe they could point you in the right direction. Unfortunately my Dad died a couple of years ago otherwise I could have asked him as he was well up on that sort of thing. There is another ex RAF gentleman I know of and I will try to contact him to see if he may be able to help.

Thanks Golach, but he's already done the Internet thing. I think he would really like to speak to someone who was at Skitten at the time or a Skitten historian, something like that. Like the Watten camp, secrecy surrounded Skitten and he's found it incredibly difficult to get to the truth about what went on there.

Thanks to everyone who's helping with this. Keep it coming please...
