I recommend the Owl Electrisave Wireless Meter (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Owl-Electrisave-Mk2-Wireless-Electricity/dp/B000LQ79Q6/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1199478770&sr=8-1). It takes 10 minutes to install and you will be able to see how much electricity you are using in realtime as well how much carbon dioxide you are using up.

Anyway, its real benefit will be to save time when turning the appliances off at night so that you know they are off without running around and you will know when your pesky teenager has the electric blower in the bedroom on full blast without them knowing.;) Mine is working fine. It is also great for finding out which of your appliances are using the most electricity, it may surprise you.

Nice one rheghead I've just ordered one of those!

And also one of these:

Saves lots of power when you switch the TV to standby, I know the better option is to switch it off, but can't guarantee everyone will do so

I was given something similiar just recently for having a energy efficiency survey done on my home. Unfortunately, my TV doesn't like being switched off at the wall every night, it seems to take about 10 minutes to want to turn back on in the morning.:(
