Please give someone the gift of life by donating your organs and carry a donor card. A donor can donate a heart, lungs, two kidneys, pancreas, liver and small bowel and restore the sight of two people.
Every year more than 400 people die in Britain while waiting for a lung, liver, kidney or heart transplant, and several people in caithness pray for that phone call which can change their life.
There is a crucial shortage of organs and the gap between the number of organs donated and the number of people waiting for a transplant is increasing.
To register or find out more PLEASE visit www.uktransplant.org.uk (http://forum.caithness.org/go.php?url=http://forum.caithness.org/go.php?url=http://forum.caithness.org/go.php?url=http://forum.caithness.org/go.php?url=http://www.uktransplant.org.uk)

Sometimes having a donar card is not enough to gaurntee your last wishes u have to register online so they can log u on there system.
Im a registered to be a doner when i die the way i look on it ure organs are no use to u when u die so u might as well give someone else the chance to live and if i die and give someone else the chance to live longer then might life hasnt been wasted thats how i see it.

I registered online a couple of months ago - the card took several weeks to reach me but I have it now. I told all my close family, so there would be no doubt or hesitation if they had to make a quick decision.

It's very well worthwhile registering, but important to talk it over with your nearest and dearest first so they know what your wishes are.

Just registered - quick & easy. I have had several cardboard donor cards over the years but they all disintegrated or got lost - hope they are using something more robust now.

It's a plastic card, oldchemist, with your name printed on it -nothing to sign.
Still a bit flimsy, but much better than the old card ones.:)

organ donation should be automatic and if you don't agree with it then you should have to opt out rather than the status quo of opting in. My 1st husband is living on in about 3-4 other people and makes me proud that his death helped them lead more normal lives

Totally agree with Dragonfly. There are countries in Europe where it is automatic that you donate and you have to opt out if you dont want to. The UK should have a bit more balls and go for it!!

I am sure I read somewhere that that is what the SNP were planning.

Thank you, Fran, for posting the link...so much easier to do this than a few years ago:)!

And can I add, I think your positveness for life is very moving and humbling, given your recent circumstances.

Inspite of all the shattering emotional treks you must still be forcing yourself up, you give inspiration to all of us, and are a strength of personality and positiveness I can only hope to emulate.

Best wishes,

Helenx

Thankyou to all you wonderful orgers for doing the organ donor card. Someone has donated a kidney which has , a few days ago, gone to a Caithness person, they do come to people up here , and I just wanted you all to know that incase you thought they just stay in the central belt.
