I remember a topic on here a while back about hating jazz and stuff. Well I came across a fantastic box set of mixed Jazz music today, its one of the best collections of live music I have ever heard. It is called "Celebrating 20 years of the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal" and it is a set of almost 40 live recordings from 1980 to 2000. My favourite track is "Chicken" by Jaco Pastorius, probably one of the greates bass players in the world ever. Other artists include.....

BB King
Muddy Waters
Albert Collins
John Mayall
Buddy Rich
Sonny Rollins
Dave Brubeck
Ella Fitzgerald
Miles Davis
Bela Fleck
Chick Corea
Diana Krall
Pat Metheny and many more.

If you see it on sale in a record store or at a fair, I highly recommend it, its all live from Montreal so all are different versions to any other recording. I found most of it mesmerising! Brilliant stuff! Make a great Christmas present fr someone.

That's certainly an impressive collection there; thanks for that. Mmm... I wonder, is it too late to write to Santa?;)

While on this topic, did you know Clint Eastwood is a big jazz fan and produced a film about this very festival?

Thanks Dee, I have been listening to Jazz for a long time now, been a big Pat Metheny and Jaco Pastorius fan for a long time. Also a big fan of the old Miles Davis band 64-68 with Hancock, Carter, Shorter and Williams. Also been listening to Dave Brubeck since I was knee high . Dave Brubeck probably my all time favourite. ;) Brubecks drummer Joe Morello was tha man!

Thanks for the link I am going to check that out!

I just found another gem of an album that absolutely blew me away. For anyone interested in listening to an absolute Jazz Legend, but not sure if they can really get into Jazz, then this is the one for you. It was the last Miles Davis album ever recorded, he managed to cut 6 tracks before he fell seriously ill, and one or two tracks were added taken from practice sessions and they remixed the first track of the album as a reprise. Its all set to modern dance and funk backing tracks so its really accessible to anyone and not your typical jazz album. Miles Davis melodies in this recording are just sublime, for anyone who does not know of him he is probably the greatest Jazz Trumpet player of all time.

The Album is called "Doo Bop" and it was released in 1992 on Warner Brothers records.

A truly beautiful recording! ;)
