Tomorrow the christmas tree goes up and the debate has started.

OH informs me that its an English tradition to have a fairy on top of the tree.
I grew up in a Glaswegian house putting the "fairy" on top of the tree.
Is the "fairy really the angel and has been commercialised?

I know it should be a star but whose right?:confused

It's a matter of personal choice, whichever you think looks best. We have a star that has a broken attachment and has to be put on with twisty wire, but it's a tradition in our house so it stays!

Meanwhile some pundits on TV are trying to make a "war on Christmas" issue out of whether various outdoor trees have a star instead of an angel. Dimwits

It should be a star, the star that led to the baby jesus. If you ask the angel or the fairy what they think I bet they will say use a star too, not nice having a tree stuck up you know where [lol]

A few years ago we had a blue angel on the Christmas tree, then No.1 son decided that if he added some blue tinsel above her mouth we would then have a "Fairy" It's now a tradition in our house that "Fairy Nuff" resides on our tree every year (he sneezes a lot tho...) [lol]

But is the fairy the same as the angel.:confused

Is it a preference of nationality?

I know its suppose to be the star :)

I was brought up to have a star and it's always stayed that way, it's magic.:)

Cp, I wonder if the idea of a fairy is a kind of angel substitute that's come from all the fairies in panto? ....both have wings!! ;)

We have a lovely white bird on top of our tree, looks ready to take flight with wings spread, and has real feathers. I have a star at the ready but the bird keeps appearing every year.

I was sick of people laughing at my fairy with the broken arm, wobbley head and hair that stands on end, so this year I bought another one. The tree just dosn't look the same without her. :(

I always have a sparkly dove on ours, it's made of wire and I suppose it's to represent 'the bird of peace', that's why I chose it anyway.
