it has gone from £60 to £80 for a tank full in my car! what about your car?

You are one of thousands of like-minded people that can and will help to make a difference.

E-Petition @ No. 10
In an effort to undermine on-line petitions such as ours, our Government has taken such petitions under its wing.

An E-Petition has been launched on the Government's web site to ask for a reduction in the fuel duty that we have to pay in the UK. At present it only has a couple of thousand names and really needs your support.

What can you do?
1. Visit the following site and sign up ASAP.
2. Please pass on this message to as many friends as you can and ask them to help.

This link will just take you to the page.

Remember that our actions in 2000 and 2003 helped to keep fuel duty frozen.

Let's make Gordon Brown sit up and listen to the voices of the people.

I doubt if they take the blindest bit of notice of the online petitions - it's just there to make people feel like they are having a say.

If you get close to or in excess of the million plus signatures (http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/) that finally rocked the road pricing plans then you might see some response.

Sadly any attempts to repeat the fuel protests and blockades of past years may not be as successful. I believe the government has measures in place to very rapidly clamp down on these ever having the effect they had back in 2000 and 2003.

People will just keep on paying the increasing prices for the fuel they use. The few that did take part in the fuel protests are in a little black book in Whitehall - rumours of phone tapping and surveillance have been made and I suspect if there was even a whiff of more protests then you might find these people disappearing....

Apparently there is going to be protests this weekend at refineries. This was meant to be scheduled for tomorrow but they changed it to Saturday.

Cool.

Not having a refinery near me I will wish them good luck. The previous protests could have made a bigger impact if the protest leaders had stuck together - they buckled and called them off and Blair and Brown were let off the hook.

I have no doubt that they will encounter a hard time getting near the refineries as the government will no doubt set up their own blockades now that the date has been announced...

Petitions that people put to the government about this will go unheeded for the best part of things, but to be honest and i dont want to upset anyone with this but if you are moaning about how much it costs to fill up your cars then maybe you should buy smaller more economical cars ...I have a fiesta that only takes 35 to fill..........

While smaller is of course better there those that need larger cars (big families being one good reason) and buying fuel efficient cars also makes good sense the fact the you are paying over £1 a litre is a rip off .

Out of that £1/litre VAT takes 14.9p, duty 50.4p, production and delivery about 31p and the retailer gets about 4p.

Try seeing how much tax you really are paying...
http://www.abd.org.uk/fuel_tax_calculator.htm

Here are my stealth tax figures -
Total Tax Per Year £967.17
Total Tax Per Month £80.60
Total Tax Per Week £18.60
Equivalent Additional Income Tax 4.84%

I don't imagine for one minute it'll make a blind bit of difference if we sign a petition or protest en masse about the rising costs. It'll be like before. Tax will be frozen for so long then steadily be increased.

I am one of those who had a bigger car. I downsized from a "tuned " 1.8 to a 1.4 fish box and cut down on Insurance and road tax.Fuel is a "bit" cheaper for me now but what I have saved in economy i am now paying in extra price!!! Seems i cant win. :)

Online petitions were regarded as irrelevant with regards to Asda even although names and addresses were provided including an I.P address. What makes this different?
Two Jags Prescott previously stated the British Motorist would be taxed off the road and have not seen any evidence to suggest this policy will change. They could say this is Britain's contribution to a reduction in global warming by making it so expensive to run a car that people will avoid using them. It seems as though most of the policies are based on what happens in London and can,t see much further than this i.e we could all be using the excellent public transport network of Tubes and Busses, cycle etc.
I wouldn't rely on public transport in Caithness and couldn't be bothered to put up timetables even if buses were available.

Duly signed.

Even though I have a Bike I have noticed the difference in price of late. Its a disgrace what the goverment takes for what is basically a waste product.
