I love looking at the photos posted on the Org.
Wish they would come along more frequently.
I like the pics of the area most as with not living in Caithness, it gives me an insight into the area:)

OK, my photos of Scrabster today:

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c22/psyberyeti/Scrabster/DSC03212.jpg

hmmm, does not look quite as good as Raven's somehow.

But my seal pup in the harbour might get the 'Ahhh' vote. I took a few more photos which I zoomed in on but there was too much camera shake in the very gloomy conditions.

You are absolutely right. I did not see that until you mentioned it. I have no idea, but there must be a reason:confused

Maybe Tugmistress can come up with the answer? Is there a door or something there that we just can't see?

??

It's not very pretty is it

Not a clue sorry! unless there was once a door/window there?
am at work again tomorrow, will try and remember to ask the question lol

lovely young grey seal pup there too, he's been knocking around for a couple of weeks now and is putting on weight nicely.

Will do some of my own night shots of scrabster when i get my tripod attachment back ( i posted it still attached to my camera when i sold it last week like a numpty, waiting for it to come back in the post for me!) and i treated myself to an early double pressie to a Canon EOS400D

This is my fav of Scrabster at the moment, 29th september

yup, used these people (http://mycanvasprints.co.uk) and i must say i am more than happy with what they have done!

Unicorn, that one was a sunset not a sunrise lol you must have been inside, but then again it only lasted like that about 3 minutes and i was lucky and got to the camera in time to get the 'fire sky' :D

Had to go to the big city today, so managed to stop off at Scbster on the way back and check out that balcony with a zoom lens....

I asked the question ... apparently the sheeting there is removable and used as some sort of inspection hatch for whatever is behind it.

Tuggy you've ruined the vision that was forming in what is loosely referred to a 'my brain'.

The balcony was put there for Tuggy to perform her famous Juliet speech to an adoring Romeo below. I don't know who would be playing Romeo perhaps you would share your preference with us Tuggy.:lol:

I am going to have to make the effort and come down to Scrabster to do some shots in the dark. The ones that you guys have come up with are really impressive. I don't have a 'sunny cross' or 'star' filter, but I'm sure a few fingers of frost on my lens should make the lights twinkle.

Somehow, the icehouse looks better in the dark.

I don`t have a star or a sunny cross filter either. Those shots were all down to manual control ;)

I could not say which of the last two that I prefer because they are quite different and each has its own qualities, and both excellent. I wish I had even half your skill..... and you created those effects without filters.... wow:cool:

Scrabster is alive tonight. Apparantly some time early Friday morning 18 Jan a large fishing boat will be in. It would make some good photos in the fish market. I just can't hang around for that long.

Ordinary fishing boats in the dark...

Hello Folks,

Bad choice of words on my part. Written English is not my first language:lol:.

I could apologise to the 'Boy Andrew' if the captain would let me onboard, with a camera, to say 'sorry'. I don't want to upset anyone - it was unintentional.

It could make an excellent photo shoot of something local and important to the community - that's what we are trying to promote with the .org I think.

Hello Tugmistress, is it possible to find out in advance when the big trawlers come in with a catch to land at Scrabster ?

Last night I only got photos of a nearly empty fish shed thingy - just a few yellow containers of ice and a chap clearing them up. To photo the process of landing the catch at Scrabster would be excellent, day or night.

It would be nice to get onboard the trawlers to photo. Do you have any friendly contacts? Do you think it's a workable idea or are there so many H&S regulations that there is no chance?

Just an idea.

Hello Raven, there was a bright light either on or over the boat that ruined the shot, so I got half a boat. I cropped this image down to remove a couple of glaring lights as it was.

I have not adjusted the photo yet - it has a very yellow hue from the sodium lights in the harbour. I just put up something very quickly when I got in last night as I was so pleased to have tried my first evening shoot at Scrabster.

Going around Scrabster at night with a camera is great fun - I would recommend it to anyone.

The balcony is there in case there is a major refrigerant leak and the staff have to get out to a safe place before being rescued!
When being shown round with my kids some years ago the guide placed some mail behind the door with the letterbox as a joke! The kids didn't get it.

Great photo psyberyeti. I'm quite sure the skipper of the Boy Andrew would not be looking for an apology :)

I'll add a wee bit of background information on the boats in your picture which may be of interest to you. The boat on the far left, WK. 171 is the "Opportune", sister ship to WK. 170 "Boy Andrew" and both belong to the Bremner Fishing Company of Wick. The "Opportune" was previously named "Boy Andrew", until the Company commissioned the build and launch of the new "Boy Andrew" in 1986.

I have a large framed photograph of both boats in Wick Harbour, taken just before the maiden voyage of the new boat. As buggyracer has said, they were the pride and joy of Wick's now sadly decimated fishing fleet.

The boat in the middle of your photo, BCK 264, is the Buckie registered "Sparkling Star".

The next time you are at the harbour with your camera, ask anyone who is about on the boats if you can go onboard. So long as they are not busy unloading fish etc., I think they would make you welcome. Be careful though - they might throw the ropes off and you could end up heading for the Pentland Firth and 10 days at sea! ;)

Hello Guys, Yup, I was mucking about too . I suppose next time I am down the harbour I should go and ask if I can go aboard and take photos - they can only say no. It would be such a great opportunity. 10 days out on a fishing boat? I'm just stupid enough to give it a try. I've still got 15 days leave for the next two months so anything is possible:lol:. I would like to record what goes on on a fishing boat, but I am only a keen amateur so they might not appreciate that.
