Film - The Golden Compass

Brilliant film, full of twists and turns. Reckon it should be marketed to the over 12's as there are some things in it, I think they would find kind of scary.
Watch it.
By the way to all those die hard Daniel *Bond* Craig fans. Hes not in it very much..sadly!

Aw Mccaugm - you disappoint me not much Daniel Craig! Glad it is a good film though - I quite fancy seeing it. Have you read the books - I quite fancy doing that too. (Still disappointed though - lol)

The books are good............for children, as are the Harry Potter ones, but very readable.......as are the Harry Potter ones.

I'll wait till it comes out on DVD..........don't fancy having to go to Thurso by bus to see it.....I'm too old to be sleeping overnight in a bus stance!

I think, after having seen the film, I would love to read the books when I get the chance. Hopefully "Oor Daniel" will be on the cover somewhere....LOL! I was never convinced about a blond bond...but I changed my opinion rapidly.

Know what you mean Mccaugm! Saw him on the Thames when he first got the job and thought mmmmh not sure about this! Saw the film and was completely hooked - completely! I am a total Sean Connery fan and loved Timothy Dalton as bond but was slightly disappointed in Pierce Brosnan but I have to say Casino Royale is the best bond film I have ever seen - it was total romance in parts - and 'Oor Daniel' (lol) - well it was just great!

could never get engrossed in these books which is strange because i usually enjoy ff must try again because the film looks brilliant, for those who have already seen it would you let a 7 year old watch it as my son fancies it after seeing the clips

Personally I didn't like the movie much at all, however I'm all for people watching it and making up their own minds. ;)

I didn't particularly see it as the work of dark forces so to speak, however if anyone feels the watching a movie will make children stop believing in God (that's if children even choose to believe in the first place), then surely they need to review their Christian teaching? Beef it up a little, know what I mean? If it can be dispelled so easily by one single fantasy movie, then there's no hope for the future of Christianity :eek:.

If your religion is so weak that a work of fiction may cause you harm then I truly pity you. Isn't Christianity about faith?

Grow up. And let kids see a great film and read a very fine book.

I never felt any true anti-christian vibes when I watched it. I saw it as pure entertainment like the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Please don't hijack this and make it an argument. Peace and harmony, positive Christian values I think.

If you'd read the books, you would know that this opinion is extremely biased. Much like the Narnia series has religious connotations, so does Philip Pullman's trilogy, however it wouldn't be considered anti-spiritual at all - quite the contrary. I suggest you read the series instead of one paragraph off Wikipedia before making your own decision.

I think anyone who watches the film is entitled to make up their own minds, and the screen adaptation has been done purely for entertainment.

The writer and his views and 'aims' in the books are a separate issue.

I agree, Mccaugm! Very enjoyable, if only for the DC factor! :lol:
