Climb Up ai Blackstairs

Climb up ai Blackstairs, dinna wait till stop
Till ye reach ai Fish Shop, richt at ai top.
Look in yur pursie, a couple o’ pounds will do
For a Haddie or twa Kippers, a change fae all ‘at Stew !
For Stew’s fit ye’ve hed every day last week,
An yur man needs a change – he is getting that seek !
So buy him a fishie, a nice bit o’ cod
Twa salt Herrings, they’re no that dear, Thank God !

Walk doon till Ducksie smile till Nellie Bain
Look in Mary Ann Donaldson’s, her window’s aye the same !
Lace cuffs and edgings, Pink knickers and slips,
She never hes the richt size, till fit yur ample hips.
Yur hips they hev grown since ye hed the last bairn
Ye’ve got naithing till fit – it’s yur man’s that yur wearing !

Walk doon till Chack’s shop, buy a quarter o’ tea,
A bag o’ broken biscuids an a bottle o’ Barley Bree,
Half a pound o’ butter an a char o’ cham
Quarter pound o’ raisins, a bit o’ beiled ham.
Beiled ham is ai thing wi’ a few new tatties
An it maks a change fae all ai Fish Patties.

In yur ain front door, by yur ain fireside,
Feet up wi’ a cup ‘ tea, feel at glow inside.
Glancin through ai Groat, see fit’s going on
My Loard at last it seems that Bella’s gone an merried Chon
For Chon’s been her man for many a long day
Hope he’ll settle doon now an change his wandering way!

Climb up till Willdag’s, get anither Loff
An a fancy Sponge Cake – it’s grand yur so well off,
Smile till Tuddy Sitherland, Nod till Sandy Bain
Better move on doon ai hill ………………hid’s coming on till rain .

trinkie, you must have followed me home once or twice when I lived in Wick. That was often my route.
