A distress beacon signal West of Hoy has sparked a rescue operation today. Although Thurso lifeboat is not out, Stromness is out and I think Stornoway, but didnt catch the report clearly.
Hope everyone is OK, its 80+ mph winds and 30+ foot waves out there according to the weather buoys stationed out there.

Heard earlier this evening that it was only the Stromness lifeboat out to this call.

Yes they are brave folk who man the lifeboats - I did not even venture outside yesterday other than to walk the dogs and they turned back after half way. Weather even the dogs do not want to be out in.

The EPIRB was set off and after 4 fly-bys of the sattelite no further signal was picked up.
The boats identity from the EPIRB seemed to confirm that the vessel was a bit wee to be out there at that time.
Hence the EPIRB possibly being washed out of its bracket then replaced or reset.
Details are available on the " Orkney Today " website.
