Hey, im planning to go to New Zealand for a year. Just wondering if anybody has been and where abouts they would recommend ?

We haven't been but I know Mrs Rheg would love to go on the organised trip that shows you all the film locations for The Lord of the Rings trilogy.:)

my brother lives on the north island and says the best sights etc are on the south island,we had friends go for 6 months, they based themselves on the south island, said the north was better.... from what we've seen of photo's , videos etc, the whole place looks pretty fantastic !!!

Yea we have been looking at various brochures and both islands look amazing, although we are leaning more towards the north island. Looks like more goes on up there.

Go to both islands. The South Island is like the Highlands on steroids. Pies beer and ice cream are really great in NZ. I did the trip on a bicycle and highly recommend doing it that way.
