Today the leaves in shades of gold and brown,
Like a flock of starlings heading for a roost were falling down.
All along the pavements like a cloth of gold,
Drifting right across the road.

The trees have shed their clothes,
Has shed it's petals too the rose.
Jack Frost now walks the night,
Turning all to silvery white.

The wind from far north blows,
Soon it will bring the drifting snows.
Stripped bare soon the garden berries.
Hungry birds have eaten all the cherries.

Time to stoke the fire, pile on the wood,
Put on the jacket with the fleecy hood.
Shut the windows, close the door,
Place an extra rug upon the floor.

Pull the chair closer to the fire,
Put the cattle in the byre,
Time to sit and think, read a book,
Sitting in the inglenook.
