New England in America was nice I liked it only down fall it was far to hot for me, being fair skinned I burned badly. been to London a few times to big and busy for me, loved Orkney and the Outer Herbrides that was more my thing than London.

Spain, Malta, portugal and Canada.

Love Malta and Portugal as I swan with dolphins there but Canada definitely tops the bill! So many beautiful places. Kelowna, Victoria ( Watched the K2 pod of Orca's off the coast of North America, absoloutely amazing), Banff ( horse riding up the rockies is a must if you ever get the chance), Edmonton mall is amazing ( although I spent most of the time sitting at the dolphin pool) and just all the lakes and points of scenery that you pass going from one place to another...breathtaking!

UK
I've lived in England and had a few hols there... Cornwall is nice, especially St Ives and Padstow and places like that.

I love London, but other than Glasgow and Edinburgh, I've yet to visit another city that I can say I like, but York is a lovely place...more of a big old fashioned town than a city.

The Gower peninsula in South Wales is lovely...my inlaws live there and coupled with the nice weather is some breath taking scenery.

The only other place I'd reccomend to people is the Isle of Lewis. Fairly near to us, but a beautiful place altogether. And Harris to, great to get the sense of 'there's naebuddy here.'

Other places

Went on a school trip to Belgium and France when I was at school in the mid 90s and really enjoyed that. THe culture isn't a million miles away from the UK culture so easy to have a comforable break there although you have to shop around for decenty priced locations I'd imagine.

Went to Rome for two weeks in a late summer in 2003. Rome is a marvellous city and you can't even explore it in two weeks. Not only have you got all the historicity of the place, there is also a nice modern laid back culture. Watch out for the weather though...we went end of August early September and it was far too hot for us...you really have to be a person who can cope with heat to go there because its very oppressive. Also, many travel agents won't offer you say a couple of weeks for a holiday, its mainly weekends and short breaks, but there are some places out there, very cheap, that you can stay in. We stayed in a Salvation Army holiday flat which was basic, but something like £200 for the two weeks plus flights of about £80 return each. Worth visiting and worth shopping around for good deals.

Had a long weekend in Moscow for an event I was attending with work, but Moscow is a fascinating city. Has all the feel of a European city, but there is just that extra something else. The people are wonderful, although they've had a hard life. To walk in the Red Square, see the Kremlin and St Basils church etc is something you'll never forget. Watch out for the taxi drivers at the airport though, they'll take your leg and ask you for half and arm. You will need a visa to get to Moscow though and thats not the easies process...in fact, you need to have a special invite from your hotel or someone you know before you can get a visa.

Bucharest in Romania is a place worth a visit. Now that it is in the EU you won't have to cue for a visa, but its one of those places people should visit out of a sense of duty just to build up their economy after so many hard hard years under socialism/communism. Bucharest itself is up an coming now the regime is over and it is a fascinating city, especially to see Chiachescu's (sp?) palace and the remnants of a once glorious city on the way back up from the ashes. The people are incredibly welcoming and its is very very cheap to visit. One hotel I stayed in for a long weekend work trip was along the lines of Travel in but was something like £10 a night.

I've been to Zaknthos, Tenerife and Corfu for just lazy beach holidays, but I'm more the kinda person who likes to see things and places.

I'd thoroughly recommend all the places I've mentioned. I'm desperate to visit Canada one day, and I'd love to see Austria and Switzerland.

In recent years havent been further that Aberdeen.
Used to go to Edinburgh quite regular.
In my younger days went to Germany,Holland and Belguim.
Must admit best for scenery and "crack" has to be Ulster.
Its such a lovely place and they speak very similar to us caithness folk!!!.
The locals understand you and you can get the crack no problems.
I know alot of people got to Eire but i found Ulster just as lovely though havent been properly to Eire to compare, going by what people say.
Did pass through Eire illegaly though on my way up to Enniskillen with the RUC.(they only told me after they asked if I had ever been to Eire,I replied No then they said well you are now!!!:) )

I have been lucky enough to have travelled quite a bit both in the UK and abroad. If I had to choose my favourite country without doubt it would be Canada, can't choose between BC or Ontario though.

Most breath taking - Niagara Falls
Most thought provoking - Ground Zero NYC
Best Crack - Dublin
Most Expensive - Disney LA
Cheapest - Bulgaria
Scariest - Toronto city centre after dark[para]
Most picturesque - Whistler Mountain BC
Most Beautiful city - Canterbury Kent

Quite lucky as I have been to some interesting places, most at goverment expense but I enjoy getting out and about. Ive been to Germany, France, Holland, Belgium, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Canada, USA, Australia, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Falkland Islands and Ascension Island.

Favourite place was the Falklands. Bit like Caithness to look at in some respects really, (very few trees and it is quite windy !!) just because it is so surreal. Met a local in a pub in Stanley and the first words he said were "I have 200 sheep", and by the way the correct response is not "Any pretty ones ??", the islands have the most amazing scenery and wildlife as well. Bertha's beach was amazing when the penguins came in from feeding, one minute you are alone and the next you are surrounded by them .. they stink by the way.

Well as an expat some of my holidays are places like Wick and Inverness! Other than that have been to Majorca, S of France, Alsace, Alberta (drove from Southern California up through CA, Nevada, a teeny bit of Arizona, Utah, Idaho and Montana, stopping at Yellowstone in Wyoming on the way back), Vegas (hated it), Grand Canyon (loved it), Yosemite and Lake Tahoe up North from here, Hawaii (used to live there but go back for work and holidays every chance I get), Florida, Virginia and Washington DC. And finally our daughter lives in Sydney so I've been to Oz twice.

I went on a cruise around the Greek islands many years ago.
But as the song says, the longest mile is the last mile home.I would never want to live permanantly anywhere but the U.K.although I'm ashamed to say I have never visited Wales. The Isle of Wight is lovely, every summer when I was in Junior school our school trip was to Cowes, purely because the head mistress had a friend there. But it is a nice island ,great for families with young children.
